This international friendly will test Romania ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Cyprus on Tuesday. Canada, on the other hand, is cruising between opponents, getting ready for the World Cup they'll co-host next year. Romania have many problems: their key players are either injured or not at their best level, so Canada should take advantage.

Here are my Romania v Canada predictions and free betting picks for Friday, September 5.

Romania vs Canada picks and predictions

My Romania vs Canada best bet: Canada Double Chance — Win or Draw (-159 at Sports Interaction)

Romania will play this friendly with Cyprus in mind. Their trip on Tuesday is a must-win if they still want anything to do with direct qualification to the 2026 World Cup. So, it's expected that veteran manager Mircea Lucescu will not field his best XI against Canada in Bucharest. That's not the only issue bothering the Romanians. None of their most important players is doing well for the club they're representing.

The likes of Dennis Man (PSV), Nicolae Stanciu (Genoa), or Denis Drăguș (Eyupsor) are trying to find form in their teams. Add to that the last-minute injuries that prevented Valentin Mihăilă (Rizespor), Daniel Bîrligea (FCSB), and Andrei Borza (Rapid) from staying in Lucescu's plans. And don't omit the fact that Ianis Hagi and Florin Niță spent their summer without any teams and thus couldn't be part of the selection.

Even with their best players on the pitch, Romania has struggled since the start of the qualifiers, so I'd say this generation's best moment was left behind at Euro 2024. I see Canada doing well in Bucharest. I'll take SportInteraction's -159 for the double chance, favouring the visitors.

Romania vs Canada same-game parlay (SGP)

Canada Win/Draw

Under 2.5

Denis Dragus to score

It shouldn't be a flamboyant display, as Romania will aim to complete a solid training match, while Canada is still far away from their World Cup participation. I'll opt for the Under 2.5 goals, and I'll add Denis Drăguș as an anytime goalscorer to round up a nice +1900 return from SportInteraction.com.

Drăguș is ever-present in Romania's attacks. If any member of the offensive pack is to hit the net, I believe he stands the highest chance.
