The annual Premier League curtain raiser sees Crystal Palace searching for their second trophy of 2025, as they face off with Liverpool in the FA Community Shield from Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Palace lifted the FA Cup to end last season as they claimed the first silverware in the club’s history. Adding more hardware will require defeating a Liverpool side that has gone on a massive spending spree following their 20th top-flight title in England.

My Orlando City SC vs Inter Miami CF best bet: Over 2.5 + both teams to score (+120 at bet365)
Liverpool have not sat on their laurels after winning the Premier League, splashing major cash to add a pair of fullbacks and an attacking midfielder. That’s on top of their interest in Alexander Isak, with the Newcastle striker being heavily linked to the Reds.
But we saw in the preseason that Slot is still trying to figure out how to best balance the side. While Liverpool won four of their five preseason club friendlies, they failed to keep a single clean sheet despite a clear talent advantage. A big reason for this is the injury crisis at center back, as they’ve protected Virgil Van Dijk for the upcoming season.
They also fell 4-2 to AC Milan, a side that ripped through them with counter-attacks time and again. Their most recent friendly, a 3-2 win over Athletic Bilbao, saw them tied 1-1 at halftime despite allowing just one shot on target.
While Palace haven’t brought in many new faces, they’ve managed to keep hold of nearly everyone. That means Mark Guehi, Adam Wharton, and Ebereche Eze will be on the pitch, the key cogs of a side that lifted their first trophy in club history.
They’re a side built to hurt Liverpool on the counter with a 3-4-3 setup, just as they did against Manchester City in the FA Cup final. With Liverpool’s new fullbacks pushing up further in attack, there will be spaces for Palace to exploit on the break.
Liverpool will likely be without Alisson in goal, and Van Dijk is not at full strength. Without their two main cogs in defense, this makes their back line even more vulnerable.
This should be an entertaining affair, and we’ll back both teams to find the back of the net with at least three goals being scored — the same result achieved in Liverpool’s entire preseason slate.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool same-game parlay (SGP)
There will be plenty of attention paid to Mohamed Salah and newcomer Florian Wirtz, but Cody Gakpo is Liverpool’s most in-form attacker at the moment. Gakpo scored in three of his four preseason appearances, registering four goals including two from the bench.
In their two meetings last season, Liverpool had 19 corners compared to just three for Palace. With the FA Cup winners likely set to absorb pressure, we’ll see the Reds get to five corners first in this match.
