There's progress at Man United this season, but their defensive problems are far from being solved, so this game screams goals.

Aston Villa sit third, with United sixth after 16 games. Villa are just three points behind league leaders Arsenal, so this match is of maximum importance in what could be a historical campaign.

I'm going for goals, counting on the early signs indicating there will be plenty at both ends.

Here are my Aston Villa vs. Man United predictions and betting picks for Sunday, December 21.

Premier League predictions for Aston Villa vs Manchester United

My Aston Villa vs Manchester United best bet: Over 3.5 goals (+150 at Sports Interaction)

Man United alone scored four goals in each of their previous two games, against Wolves (4-1) and Bournemouth (4-4), so their firepower has delivered consistently.

There have been at least three goals scored in all of Aston Villa's last four matches. The series included a 4-3 away triumph over Brighton and a 3-2 win in London against West Ham.

This confrontation between Aston Villa and Man United should feature plenty of goals. Despite the high stakes, both sides will play an open game, guaranteeing plenty of energy around both boxes.

I am taking Sports Interaction's Over 3.5 goals for Sunday's match.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 3.5 goals

Bruno Fernandes 1+ shots on target

Morgan Rogers 1+ shots on target

Over 9.5 corners

Bruno Fernandes has both scored and assisted a goal in his last two Premier League appearances. The only Man Utd player to do so in three in a row is Ryan Giggs in April 2003, so the Portuguese can set a landmark if he does it again. Bruno is in great form, and I will not omit him from my SGP.

I'm also going after Morgan Rogers. He's been involved in eight goals in his last 11 Premier League games for Aston Villa (5 goals, 3 assists). Shooting on target at least once against United looks solid.

To reach a +700 return, I'm including corners. Aston Villa's average is just over five per game, while United are at 4.69. With so many attacking expected, there should be plenty of context for corners in this matchup.
