So here it goes. Over the past couple months I have basically been the middle man for a few people (co-worker, friend, etc) and have also been betting. But I only bet small. Haven't bet anything big while dealing with this guy.  I was making money off of the guys I hooked up with an account. And good money. They have lost a lot. Over a couple week span, I collected around 12k. Was paid off of that. So to get to the story... the one guy won a little over 9k a few weeks back after losing more then that the prior weeks. So technically he's still down... but that doesn't matter.... over the lasts two weeks he's lost a total of 30 grand and can't pay it. Coming up with excuse after excuse as to why he can't pay. In my head I can't believe anyone could lose that much and also don't know why the book allowed him to lose that much. But he did and now the book is going crazy and should be. But now Im fucked because I am the middle man. It's basically my problem. The book what's the guy's contact info and picture. Has basically threatened him through me and not sure what he's said to him after I gave him his number. But this guy is a co worker and hold a pretty high job within my company. I am now looking at my career getting jeopardized over this. So when I talked to the guy and told him this guy will probably come looking for him, he asked his name in which I didn't give him. But he basically said if anyone threatens him or comes after him he will call the police without hesitation.... what the hell do I do at this point. And what would the bookie do if the guy said he's going to call the cops if threatened?? This is stressing me out big time and could possibly ruin my marriage as well. If I end up having to pay for this guy my wife will kill me. I don't know what to do.

Please no bs comments. I know everyone likes to joke and all. But this is serious.

    Thanks guys

Yeah. So he can pay 10k. Then said that's it. Can't pay 35. Said if book can't deal with that and wants to send people after him, cops get called.

? if your bookie thinks you have  your friends money that's one thing .....but if its just a case of the guy losing and not paying ..F-them both, its not your problem , cost of doing business.

you can bet your a*s if the bookie threatens him with harm he will call the police ...this ain't 1950's.

You got the vig when he lost. You're on the hook for "your guys". Get the 10k and pay the remainder. Was this not understood up front?

Biggest issue I have is.. if this bookie ends up hiring someone to go after this guy and they show up at work. I just feel like this can get bad. I'm a little terrified this will effect my career

Well he's said.. I'll give the contact info to my guys... he wants a picture of the guy. I'm just thinking in my head, I didn't know people still did this. Obviously he wants his money. But is he going to really risk his whole operation over this? If he gets 10k I would hope he would be ok with it. But I don't think he will. He's talking like he will 100% get the money. So I don't know what connections he has. But I do know I've learned a fucked up lesson this week. I'm stressed out like crazy

You have a way to become a better position.

this is pay the bookie, sell something, take a personal loan what ever.

then bank your leverage chip with the boss.

simply state i took care of this no futhur explaination.

when it is time you can use this private knowledge to
    your advantage.

Is your co-worker your boss? If he is, pay out of your pocket the rest you can muster up to the Bookie. Say you'll get him the rest when you can scrounge up enough. Use this as leverage over your co-worker to try and springboard it into a promotion or raise.

on the home front be open to your spouse of what you are doing why you are doing this and what benifit your family could realize with this gesture.

if you can with stand the first 30 minutes of diatribe rants and get down to the specifics,
you can salvage the relationship by inclusion of the spouses opinion.

if you should truly finesse the IDEA . it will be her idea your agreeing to.. best of luck man.

This is pretty easy. If this creep doesn't set up a payment plan with the bookie give the bookie this guy's name. He doesn't need a picture, so screw that. Step back and let it unfold. This is not your problem. Yes, you vouched, but you will be doing the correct thing. If your friend is willing to put you out there, then screw him.

Throw the co-worker under the bus. Give out all his info. Kids names, there schools, pets, everything. Take your chances. Think about it. If this co worker did this too you how comfortable are you really working there. In the meantime start looking for a more comfortable place to work. If your skilled and intelligent you may find another place to work ends up being an unintended blessing.

Time to man up. It was all good when you were getting the juice but now ur the one getting squeezed.

Your wife probably knows you gamble but she probably doesn't think you were stupid enough to get caught in the middle. I wouldn't tell her anything until absolutely necessary.

Setup a payment plan. Tell the dude who owes the money he has to pay $100 a week & u add $100 a week for just being a dumb behind. Pay your bookie the $200 a week & don't miss a payment.

As far as work is concerned, let the deadbeat know if this affects your career it will affect his as well. Make sure he know this isn't going away & the sooner it is dealt with the better.

This is nothing to worry about, your book opened him up for an amount that I am sure you didn't guarantee so he took all the risk. It is part of the business, if your co worker can give he a nice chunk the book will be more than happy to work out a payment plan after that. This happens every day in the business, you have nothing to worry about.  It is money on paper, not actual money given out, your book is not out 1 penny if he never collects from this guy. Nobody is getting beat up over gambling money, it is a business and no "real" book is going to risk his business over 30K, now if your book is just some punk that is a nobody he may try to be a tough guy but I doubt it. Unless you were on a half sheet (making 50% on losses) then you are not responsible for any money. Been around the business for 20+ years, nothing to worry about

Thanks for your post. I am collecting 10k from him to give to the book. He then said he has to be put on plan. Original plan the book wanted him on was 8k a month for 3 months. That's not even possible. The guy was thinking 500 or more a month until paid. Can't do anything else. I can't imagine he wouldn't do it. But I don't know? This is all just so oily of my league it's crazy.

    This.

I would also pay the bookie the $700 you collected in juice as a "good faith" gesture to help clear your name and conscience from this mess. Not fair that the only person who isn't getting effected financially in this is you.

Very hard for me to believe he pays $500 a month for the next 4 years to clear the remaining 25k. But like I said, pay back the juice you collected and step out of it, let the bookie and the player work it out. You don't need to middle man the pay back process for 2 grown men.
