Swedish game developer Play'n GO has received a license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), clearing the way for its catalog of online casino titles to become available to licensed operators in the province.
Key Takeaways
- Play'n GO secured Alberta approval, positioning its casino content for licensed operators when the market opens.
- Alberta becomes Play'n GO's third Canadian regulated jurisdiction, after Ontario and Quebec.
- The company has started certifying selected titles, signaling preparation before Alberta's online market launch.
The Alberta approval adds a third Canadian regulated jurisdiction to Play'n GO's footprint, joining Ontario and Quebec, where the company already holds supplier credentials.
In preparation for entering the market, the company has begun putting a selection of its titles through Alberta's certification process to confirm compliance with the province's technical and regulatory standards.
Chief Commercial Officer, Magnus Olsson, described the Alberta license as a natural progression of the company's North American ambitions, noting that the province's regulatory approach aligns with the standards the company prioritizes when entering new markets.
"Regulated markets are the foundation of our business, and Alberta represents an exciting opportunity to expand our footprint in a jurisdiction that shares our commitment to high standards, player protection and long‑term sustainability,” Olsson said.
Play'n GO's game library spans several formats, including grid slots, table games, and branded series titles. The company has been active in North American regulated expansion over the past several years, with Alberta representing its most recent addition on the continent.
No specific launch date for its Alberta-facing content was given, though the certification process already underway suggests the company is targeting readiness ahead of the province's market opening.

Alberta's iGaming market prepares for July 13 launch
Play'n GO's licensing move comes as Alberta's broader regulated market readies for a firm opening date.
Alberta's regulated online gambling market, covering both sports betting and iGaming, is scheduled to open on July 13, 2026, making it the second Canadian province, after Ontario, to welcome private operators into a regulated framework.
The AGLC will serve as the market regulator while continuing to run PlayAlberta, the province's current sole authorized online platform. A separate body, the Alberta iGaming Corporation, will manage operator relationships and contracts, a structure that mirrors Ontario's existing setup.
Officials estimate that roughly 70% of online wagering in Alberta currently takes place on unregulated platforms. The regulated launch is intended to bring that activity into a taxed, provincially supervised system, with licensed operators subject to a 20% gross gaming revenue tax. Of that, 2% goes toward First Nations initiatives, and 1% toward social responsibility programs.
As of early May, 28 operators had been approved or were in progress with the AGLC's licensing process, including major brands such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and theScore Bet.
Player protection features, including system-wide self-exclusion and financial and time-based limit tools, will be available at launch. Operators that fail to meet the July 13 deadline must stop taking bets, with extensions available on a case-by-case basis up to Oct.13.
