Online sportsbooks in the most lucrative U.S. sports betting market combined to haul in more than $50 million for the third consecutive week.

Key Takeaways

  • The first week of the NBA and NHL playoffs led to $54.2 million in profits.

  • The handle stayed under $500 million again.

  • FanDuel, BetMGM, and BetRivers produced high holds.

The New York State Gaming Commission reported on Friday that the eight mobile operators won back 11.2% of a $484.5-million handle during the week ending April 19. The $54.2 million in gross revenue during the first week of the NBA and NHL playoffs have helped make April an extremely profitable month.

Sportsbooks have already eclipsed $160 million in gross revenue with more than a week of betting still to report, putting them on pace to surpass last April when operators generated $192.7 million in monthly profits.

Between the two early postseasons and MLB, New York’s weekly handle remained below $500 million for the third time in the last four periods. Compared to the same week in 2025, dollars wagered were up 4.8%, while gross revenue spiked 100.7% year over year.
