The Show Me State sports betting launch finally has a date.

Key Takeaways

  • Missouri will begin offering sports betting with about a month left in the NFL’s regular season.
  • Plans of a summer launch turned into an early winter start.
  • FanDuel and DraftKings are among the operators ready to do business in Missouri.

The Missouri Gaming Commission confirmed with Covers’ Ryan Butler on Thursday that online and retail sportsbooks will begin offering wagering on Dec. 1, a little over a year after the state’s voters legalized sports betting.

Following a close approval of the 2024 ballot measure, regulators had hoped to launch sportsbooks by late June, but the timeline was pushed back to the fall before setting the early winter date.

This means the state and its residents will miss out on the majority of the NFL season, which begins Sept. 4. However, the launch will still cover the final month of the regular season, the entire NFL playoffs, and all of the College Football Playoff.

The Kansas City Chiefs, a team that pushed for legal Missouri sports betting, host the Houston Texans in primetime on Dec. 7.

Missourians will have plenty of options when it comes to sportsbooks. FanDuel said in March that it plans to operate in the 39th state to legalize sports betting. DraftKings, ESPN BET, and BetMGM are among the list of other operators looking to do business in the Show Me State.
