After college football’s massive Week 1 matchups, Week 2 took a little bit of a backseat to the NFL, with fewer ranked games. However, Week 3 is full of intriguing, heavily bet matchups, highlighted by an old-school SEC showdown.

Key Takeaways

  • Georgia is seeing a bulk of the action, but sharps seem to be all over the Vols

  • Clemson, Oregon, Florida, and South Florida are a few of the other teams bettors are loading up on in Week 3

  • Texas A&M-Notre Dame and Vandy-South Carolina are drawing split action

“College Football Week 3 is headlined by Georgia at Tennessee, the most-bet game of the week, with heavy action coming in on the Bulldogs to cover,” BetMGM trading manager Seamus Magee said.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that bettors are flocking to get in on Georgia. The Bulldogs, a 4-point favorite on Saturday afternoon, have won eight consecutive games in the series and have covered the spread in seven of those meetings against the Vols.

Georgia is getting 69% of the money at ESPN BET and 63% at DraftKings, where the Bulldogs are also seeing a commanding 60% of the bets. BetMGM has seen 54% of the money come in on Georgia, the second-most bet team by handle and tickets this week.

“A Georgia win and cover would be the best result for customers, but we have seen some sharp action coming in on the Volunteers,” Magee said.

This matchup appears to be a public vs. professionals kind of game. The Vols (+145) are the most-bet underdog at BetMGM, but ESPN BET has seen the third-most moneyline bets come in on Georgia at -175. The under 50.5 is the most popular total at BetMGM as well.

Big-time draws

That SEC showdown isn’t the only game of importance that’s catching bettors’ attention in Week 3.

“Oregon, Florida, and Clemson covering is also drawing significant handle, while bettors are looking to underdogs like Tennessee, Texas A&M, and South Florida to deliver payouts,” Magee said.

The Tigers enter a critical road game against Georgia Tech in the early slate not looking their best, but even though Clemson went from a 6.5-point favorite to -3, it is still the fifth most-bet game of the day at BetMGM. Clemson is also the second-most popular moneyline favorite at ESPN BET with odds of -155, and the Tigers are getting 72% of the handle to win outright at DraftKings.

Oregon is the most-bet team overall at BetMGM this week heading into their game against Northwestern as a robust 28-point favorite. Nobody seems to believe in the home team in this one as the Ducks are getting 97% of the handle at DraftKings.

Bettors are banking on South Florida doubling up in the Sunshine State a week after upsetting Florida. This time, the Bulls are the third most-bet team by tickets as a +17.5 underdog at Miami and the second-most popular moneyline upset team at +600 at BetMGM.

Sharps seem to be buying low this week on the Gators, who are seeing some significant action as a 7-point underdog as well. Florida is getting 69% of the handle at ESPN BET but just 32% of the tickets.

Split decisions

In another big night game, bettors are torn on Texas A&M at Notre Dame. The Aggies (+6.5) are getting 52% of the bets and 49% of the handle at ESPN BET. The Irish have taken more action at BetMGM, where they’re getting 69% of the money. DraftKings has seen 61% of the handle and 57% of the bets on the home team.

Vanderbilt-South Carolina offers another intriguing split, with 52% of the tickets at BetMGM coming in on 6.5-point-favored Gamecocks, while 57% of the money is backing the underdog.

Bettors are all over the place with Alabama, a 21-point favorite against Wisconsin. The Crimson Tide looked awful two weeks ago at Florida State, and they’re getting a slight 54% edge in money at DraftKings, but BetMGM customers love Alabama with 85% of the handle backing the home team.

Player props

The most-bet player prop for Week 3 at BetMGM belongs to Anthony Hankerson. Bettors are loving the Oregon State running back to go over 57.5 rushing yards (-125) at Texas Tech on Saturday. Teammate and OSU QB Maalik Murphy is second with over 212.5 passing yards (-115).

Bettors also think Vandy QB Diego Pavia won’t be running a lot against the Gamecocks, as they love his under 60.5 rushing yards (-125). Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love is a popular over, with his rushing total set at 75.5 yards (-115).

He’s also the most-bet anytime touchdown scorer this week at BetMGM, followed by South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers and Georgia QB Gunner Stockton.
