A DraftKings bettor got one step closer to winning $270,000 from a $13 wager on Thursday as the Edmonton Oilers came back to defeat the Florida Panthers in overtime.

Drew Hirschman is riding a five-leg futures parlay, which will cash +2082680 odds if the Oilers win the Stanley Cup and the Oklahoma City Thunder win the NBA Finals.

Key Takeaways

  • The bet had a one-in-20,828 chance of winning
  • The Thunder and Oilers are both favored to win their respective series
  • DraftKings since updated the cash out offer to $107,591.51

The 24-year-old New York bettor had parlay odds of less than .01 percent when he placed the wager.

Having already cashed legs that included the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series, the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl, and the New York Liberty to win the WNBA Finals, Hirschman only needs the Thunder (-230 series price) and the Oilers (-118) to deliver.

DraftKings previously offered him the opportunity to cash out of the ticket for $135,000, but he decided to let it ride.

The offer dropped to $60,000 after the Thunder lost Game 3 to the Indiana Pacers, although he claimed that he was more worried about the NHL side of his wager.

“Obviously, I would’ve loved to get a win, but really not the biggest deal,” Hirschman said in an interview with DraftKings after Indy’s 116-107 win. “I have a lot of faith in this team… we’re good on the Thunder. [Thursday] is a must-win [for the Oilers].

“Florida is a great team, but Edmonton is better, and they’re going to win in seven. Mark my words.”

On Friday, DraftKings updated its cash out offer to $107,591.51.

Hirschman was almost made to look a fool as the Oilers fell into an 0-3 hole in the first period of Game 4. However, they responded with three goals in the second period and took the game into overtime, where they won via Leon Draisaitl’s charging goal.

In it for the long haul

Based on the implied probability of betting odds, Hirschman’s parlay has a 37.7 percent chance of getting over the line. That’s the same as a straight bet at +165 odds.

That means the parlay prophet placed a $13 wager for what would now take $164,097.82 to win his ticket’s possible $270,761.40 payout.

“The nasty comments are going to come,” Hirschman said when he was asked about not taking a cash out. “I am a little greedy.”

According to the New York Post, Hirschman described himself as not a “huge” bettor with a parlay based on “pure luck.”

The Thunder are the next team up in his parlay as they prepare to face the Pacers in Game 4 on Friday evening. OKC is a six-point favorite on the road despite losing by seven points in Game 3 and going 0-8 against the spread on the road in the playoffs.

The Oilers are -120 on the moneyline in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, which will take place in Edmonton on Saturday night.
