Outright pick: Jon Rahm

A trip to Valderrama last summer kick-started the absolute heater Jon Rahm has been on for the past calendar year. He’s won twice and added another 17 Top-10 finishes across the 22-event run while pacing this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green.
Rahm’s last win also came at the LIV Chicago event last September, so he’s been knocking on victory’s door without storming through despite the consistent elite play. A hometown win ahead of The Open Championship shouldn’t surprise.
Outright pick: Sergio Garcia

Throw the current form out the window because Sergio Garcia has been a mess dating back to missing the cut at the Masters in April, and he just missed the cut at the BMW International Open last week.
Still, he’s the defending champion at Valderrama, and the 45-year-old Spaniard has also picked up three more wins with another three Top 10s right here at his “favorite course”.
Matchup pick: Cameron Smith over Cameron Tringale

Cameron Smith has topped Cameron Tringale in four of the past five LIV Golf events, and the Aussie was also far better in the 2024 LIV Andalucia tournament.
Smith is the superior player and finally gained true strokes on approach at LIV Dallas for just the second time in 12 events this season. With The Open ahead next week, I’m anticipating Smith dialing in his game and topping Tringale again this week.
