Rotation numbers are assigned to teams. All the books will have the same team as rotation 901. They alternate between 901/902 (game on Sunday) and 951/952 (game on Monday) because books can have game lines for multiple days. On Tuesday you will see 901/902 again because Sundays game is long over. 

MLB will have numbers starting with 900, NBA with 800, NFL with 300, NHL with 100. 

It's just an easier way of communicating for the books.

It's now -197. But, that is still too much to put on this terrible SD team that could not score more than 3 runs a game.

You say "rotation numbers" are assigned to teams. Well today SD is 901, yesterday 961 and Friday 913. So what are you trying to say???

Rotation numbers are assigned to teams on daily basis. The team does not carry rotation numbers from day to day. MLB starts with 901/902 as usually the first NL game of the day. They cover the NL games first (usually in sequence of start time) , then they move to the AL games. 

I underlined usually as an early rotation number does not always men the first game of the day.
