She was up 7-6 4-0 and just lost 6 straight games to lose the 2nd set. Nothing new here in women’s tennis, but still! How can you choke that hard so close to the finish line???!!!

It actually often happen like that - because then the other player thinks "Fuck it I have more or less already lost" then they start playing more freely and then suddently it is 4-3 and then the one with "4" start thinking "Fuck now I am only 1 game ahead I already thought I had won" and then they start playing with nerves etc. - It is why WTA actually isn't that hard to predict as it first seem when you start watching it a lot - because stuff like that happens ALL the time - it is almost more rare they take it home without problems unless there was a huge skill gap to begin with (it is also why I think it is actually a bigger advantage knowing the psychology of humans - rather than knowing a lot in general about the game -- tennis is a 1 vs 1 game - and those are often won in the mind)

Ya, Schmaidwr was just rolling though. She somehow broke to start the 3rd, but looks to be about done again now. Can’t give up 7+ breaks and expect to win many matches

paolini was up 4-0 in the 1st set and lost it 5-7, basically same thing. bet a lot of money lost live. 1st set she goes up 4-0 some people prob dumped on her only to see it fade away, she gets down 4-0 in 2nd set surely she loses, but nope the pig wearing a scarf somehow can't win it. shnaider is known for taking fake mto's when she's losing, sometimes when she's winning, done it almost every match last year it seems.

Exactly this. Very unlikely she makes that comeback without the delay.
After a rough ending to the first she was reeling bad to start the second. Then there was the delay giving Paolini time to get her head straight and realize she had nothing to lose. And that 6th game woke the crowd up again and you almost knew that whoever got through that game was winning the match.
I wish there was data on this, but I honestly think that during last year's WTA clay season you could have blindly bet each player who was losing going into the rain delay and end up profitable, maybe very profitable. Obviously only talking about matches that were expected to be competitive going in. This scenario seemed to be a prominent theme at RG last year, especially when the delays lasted several hours or overnight.

Yeah of course - The only reason I can think of is money - but I think it would be a small cost for not having to change scheldue on the fly - not having to reissue tickets - there has also been GS where they have had to pay parts of the tv licence agreements payments back etc. and it isn’t like they have to build a new roof every year

Speaking of courts, a couple of Calde's compatriots have complained about the surface conditions in Rome.
Did y'all see that ace Zheng hit that somehow bounced like 3 feet over Aryna's head?? Looked like a routine serve until it hit the dirt and bounced up like Zheng had hit a smash from the net or something. That was wild.

Lol I've always asked this question to my tennis friends.

Saw that. Unbelievable to be honest.
