adding Anastasija Sevastova +5.5 over N. Osaka
On paper Osaka should win this matchup straight forward without any drama or pressure. However, I think this is a good spot for me taking A. Sevastova a Latvian ranked #386. She has won 3 matches, all 3 setters this week. She had a baby then she came back and immediately had a torn ACL injury, so she's been in recovery / rebuilding mode all at the late singles playing tennis age of 35.
She was once ranked #11 and this week beat #4 Pegula & #34 Linette & #88 Tomljanovic, which shows that she can still play and hang and has a little left in the tank and not get blown out.
Naomi has parted ways with Patrick Mouratoglou a few days before this tourney started and she has a lot going on in her head after the Washington Tournament. I think that Naomi’s focus and motivation levels will be way down after 3 wins so far this week and she just wants a “W” anyway she can get it against any opponent and she just wants to move on to the next round. Whereas I will get a motivated, spirited fighting player in Sevastova today who's future in singles is right now. Taking Sevastova with the +5.5 games. GLTA

Muchova plays a somewhat similar style to Ons Jabeur and to many other women, who all play an almost junk ball / backboard type game. Their games are more defensive in posture than offensive. Basically, they are more willing to grind than Maddy is. They take far less chances than Maddy does. They are normally more aggressive only when they are in a better court position to win a point or ahead 30-0 or 40-15 in points in a game. Whereas we all know that Maddy fires away utilizing pure power from any angle / position on court to win a point or to shorten the length of rallies. Maddy has been trying all her career to harness the power and be more patient. She has always been a work in progress. However, she still reverts to pure power when under presuure or when she realizes that a rally has gone past 8 shots. When she is ……“On”………. there are few women that can absorb and withstand her pure power and her pure winners, however when she is not firing on all cylinders her “Plan B” is very weak and her patience normally gets the better of her and her unforced errors rises significantly. Friday Caty McNally gave her a lot of difficulty in a 3 setter and today I see K. Muchova with her assortment of shots and finesse and almost junk ball type game hanging in there with my +3.5 games to get me a cover. I think that K. Muchova can somehow, someway hang around today to get Maddy frustrated and lose patience and composure. However, if Maddy has her “A” game today I will just have to take the “L” and move on. GLTA

adding Muchova -185 over A. Ruzic Muchova #14 is coming back from another injury and she has only played 3 tourneys in the last few months and only managed to beat Inglis on grass at Queens Club………… that why the line is like this IMHO. Ruzic # 94 won a qualy match on July 26 ……..2 & 1 ……against a young Canadian player D. Plekhanova ranked #509 then on July 28th she was down a set and 0-4 to A. Potopova and went on to win the match 5-0 in the 3. she knows that Shes extremely lucky to still be playing. Now she comes back today to take on a crafty tour vet in Muchova #14 who has loads of experience and is trying to find her footing. I think it’s a great price for me at -185 and she will have just too much experience in her comeback for the 22-year-old Croat.
Adding Peyton Stearns +4.5 over E. Raducanu Peyton looked confused and error plagued against 45-year-old V. Williams at Washington and Emma looked really good in her matches last week…………..that’s why I think I am catching +4.5 games instead of what should be +2.5 games, If Peyton did not look so bad against V. Williams. Peytons is a much better player than her performance in Washington last week.

Canadian open ATP tomorrow - Wed, July 30 in Toronto
FAA – 190 over F. Marozsan F. Marozsan ATP #56 won yesterday ........... 2 and 2 against H. Dellien a Bolivian clay courter and last week he went 1-1 at Washinton D.C. He's 5W - 5L in his last 10 matches on grass and hard courts.
Felix Auger Aliassime ATP #28 - recently went 6-4 in grass tourneys and last week went 2-1 on hard court and beat R. Bautista-Agut 6-3 7-6 then beat S. Tsitsipas in 2 sets before losing to F. Cobolli 10-8 in a tiebreaker, however he & his Canadian team still won the Hopman Cup with Bianaca Andressca in Bari Italy. Last year (July 2024) FAA when he played at home in Montreal at the Canadian Open, he lost in the first round……. Embarrassingly. Mostly because he had just played 6 matches in less than a week at the July 2024 Paris Olympics. He had only 3 days rest including travelling, between his 1 round match in Montreal last year and the Olympics. He lost easily to F. Cobolli an Italian ranked #17 at the time last year, by the score of 3 and 2
In the Olympics last year, he played C. Alcaraz to get to the finals for the gold medal and lost in that big match. He then lost to Lorenzo Musseti for the bronze medal in a tough physical 3 setter on clay 6-3 in the 3 set. By the time he got back home to Canada switching from clay at the French Open to grass at Wimbledon to clay at the Olympics to hard courts in Montreal with just 3 days rest he was mentally, physically and emotionally drained with nothing in the tank. He was basically cooked.
This year he comes into his home country’s national tourney fresh, healthy and fit, just off a Hopman cup victory on hard courts. This year he has had time to adjust and acclimate, not like last year switching from the different surfaces with very little preparation time. This year he’s mentally rejuvenated and in a good head space to compete & wanting to perform well for once on home soil. So, I see him winning this match. I don’t know by how many games or how many sets, I'm sure that Marozsan will be competitive and put up resistance, however I know & feel that FAA will be willing to fight, grind and persevere to get a win for himself, his family and all his Canadian friends. What I am looking for is trying to find a match to wager on where I know the player I pick is fully motivated, engaged and willing to grind, fight and persevere.
It does not mean that the player will win, however I feel better in a loss when I know that I wagered on a player that was mentally and physically ready to compete and in FAA tomorrow I think that I will get that. It’s heavy juice but I am laying the -190 at bookmaker on Felix for a big play for me. GLTA

C. Branstine +5 games over Maria Sakkari
Maria Sakkari age 30 - WTA # 72. - Since Doha in Feb. has 15W & 15L and only 3 of her wins have been by more than 5 games. She played very well last week in Washington beating Katie Boulter and Emma Navarro and then losing to Emma Raducanu 6-4 – 7-5 Prior to that she beat Anna Blinkova in the 1 round at Wimbledon and then loss to Rybakina 6-1 6- 3 in the 2 round. I think that today she will be just trying to win and get through this 1 round Canadian open match anyway she can, and she will just be happy to win. Her motivation & focus levels will not be nearly as high as they were in Washington last week or at Wimbledon, especially playing Carson Branstine who’s ranked 178. What I think that I am getting in this match-up is a highly motivated 24 year old American / Canadian who has spent a few years training at the USTA, then she accepted an offer from Tennis Canada to train at the National Training Centre in Montreal, starting in October 2016 because her mother is Canadian and her father is American. So, she’s playing on courts that she is very familiar & happy with and she's very comfortable in this city and the surroundings. She has played college tennis at Texas A&M and Virginia (similar backgrounds as Emma Navvaro and Danielle Collins who started playing professionally later in age and both have done very well). In June, C. Branstine made her WTA Tour main-draw debut, after qualifying for the Libéma Open in the Netherlands, and defeated top seed Liudmila Samsonova WTA # 16 in the first round. Branstine lost to fellow qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse in her next match C. Branstine defeated French Open semifinalist Loïs Boisson, &fellow Canadian Bianca Andreescu, and Raluca ?erban in qualifying to make it through to her first major main-draw at Wimbledon. She then lost to world No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka, in the first round 6-1 7-5 ) Despite her loss, she reached a new career-high ranking of world No. 178 on 14 July 2025. In my eyes, under the right conditions, she can play with the big dogs respectfully and not get blown out badly. And today she has those right conditions all in her favor. I think and feel that getting +5 games is excellent value.
I’m rolling with C. Branstine today with +5 games GLTA

Bjorn_Borg .............you make a lot of doubles plays. Have a look at this WTA doubles match for tomorrow Labor Day Sept. 4th. I really like Kato / Sutiadi as alive dog at +201 (Bookmaker). Doing some handicapping, research and digging for info on this match..........thinking about making a larger than normal wager on this match-up. What's your thoughts? I know that Azarenka and Haddad won the tourney in Barcelona and Haddad is ranked #14 which says that she's a very good doubles player. However, I really feel that the "team" of Kato / Sutjiadi plays well together and has a lot of experience and have been playing together regularly since in February in Dubai and has lot of quality wins. |

Jen Brady......... is showing great patience so far in not pulling the trigger so fast and also her backhand is holding up very well against Woz's trying to pin her down in the backhand corner. |
