Took the last two weeks after the Masters off of posting and had Scottie at the RBC.. brutal. Followed that up with Nelly in the Chevon and had the Fitzpatrick bros in the Zurich. Hadn't gotten an outright pre tournament this season, and I managed to get both the men's and women's in the same week. Really hoping to keep the momentum going this week. My thoughts are below:
Doral is a fascinating venue this week - there are only 16 guys in the field have actually played it competitively. The 2014 Gil Hanse renovation changed the course enough that pre-2016 WGC data doesn’t transfer over cleanly enough to apply to this year's event.
7,739 yards, par 72, four par 5s. distance off the tee is going to make the difference here. guys who can’t reach the par 5s in two are spotting the field 8-12 strokes over 72 holes before a single putt drops.
Awesome course, have played it multiple times. Being over 7,700 yards in length, this will provide a challenge for these guys with a lot of long irons in hand.
My plays for the week are in order of confidence:
Scheffler +325
Morikawa +1750
Gotterup +2600
Hovland +3000
Henley +2250
If you have any sort of profit boost available, I think a play on Scottie on anything higher than +300 is value. Not going to get rich with a short favorite in a tour event, but with that being said I feel pretty good about chasing down scottie this week. I think it's notable that he had a 12% gap between him and the next best player in the field this week which, for a signature event, is ridiculous. May look to add a live play on him during/after R1, depending on how he starts out.
BOL this week everyone.
