Worst call in the history of hockey?

I understand why people are frustrated about this goal being disallowed, but are we about to chastizse refs for actually making CORRECT calls, and applying the actual written rules of the game?  Look, it's one thing to get on a ref when they miss something, but you can't be angry at the refs last night for making the correct calls, according to the NHL rulebook.  The call on the Lapierre goal was spot on as well.

With that said the only real problem with refs these days is the lack of consistency. Guys like Holmstrom have made careers off of goals like that.

That's precisely the most frustrating issue in these (and previous) play-offs - but more so than even this current playoff year). Penalties for interference (goalie as well as player), hooking, slashing, boarding, head-shots etc have become a hodge-podge of wildly fluctuating schizophrenic interpretations between various referees. How anyone doesn't think this doesn't ruin both the integrity and entertainment value of the game is beyond me.

But the ultimate irony (and flagrant @#$@#$-you to the fans that watched the earlier match-ups) will be demonstrated in the 'big' games (Conference Finals/Stanley Cup) where I guarantee you that the referees, for the most part, put away their whistles and let the players decide the game (which, quite frankly, based on the incredibly shitty officiating results to date by supposedly going 'by the book' I will gladly embrace in a heartbeat).

Have not read this complete thread but it seems to me that in Game 2 which the habs lost, goals like the one that went in with Lapierre in the Crease- were allowed.

In this game they were not allowed.

But this is the case in every sport. This is what happens when humans make the judgment call. It is based on what they see, how they feel about it and how they interpret what the rule is. There was much worse in game 2 that went un-called. Suddenly in game 6 and last night everything was called. The league has opened itself up to this type of criticism because of the different ways in which refs enforce the rules. That leads to a large gray area that leaves the majority of the calls up for debate.

When a stick hits a player in the face, that is an automatic 2 minutes. We have all seen those calls missed, even when a player has been cut. So even on a rule that is black and white there are mistakes.

Some refs allow more contact in the basketball, and refs protect the QB's's more in some football games. Players have reputations, a Brady is possibly protected more than a Garrard, Lappiere and Carcillo are players that have bad reps so they might not get a call their way like a superstar. There are so many variables and factors in determining a call.

I maintain my position that Halak had not fallen on his ass like he did the ref would not have called it a no goal. It was for that reason along with Knuble in the crease that led to the decision.

Hey guy, okay I did not have any bets on this game and I am a Habs fans. And I think that was a bad call. The goal should have counted, but we got away with one :P

But then again we should have won Game 2, and that makes up for all the BS calls that were made against the Habs in all games (incl the reg season) up until this point.

Let's not forget that our next goal was also denied when it was clearly a Caps player that pushed our player onto Varlamov.

And I agree that there is a lot of rigging in sports as gambling money > fans money. But if anything, this series should have been Montreal's much more easily. Caps got lucky in 2 games, we had their number in the regular season and they have too many over-rated points. They do not have the defense, nor the goaltending to get past the 2nd round in a million years.

Quasi you honestly sound like a 10 year old kid on here.  When Anderson shut down the sharks you bitched about goalies stealing games, you act like this doesnt happen or isnt supposed to happen, but guess what, in the playoffs this happens all the time. I understand you didnt start this thread but you took it over with your ridiculous comments.  I dunno how you can argue convincingly that it wasnt goalie interference, I mean come on.  At worst it was a 50/50 judegement call.  The habs played their heart out hate them or not.
