Why not shave off a half a point?

    Houston is +9 but -129

    Why do they do this?

For teaser bets or for people that can buy points.  At 9 I can only buy down to 7.5.  I wanted 7 or 6.5 which I can no longer buy down to.

Tells you a lot more people are teasing Balt down than Houston up.  Books put it at 9 with added juice and it gives them a free point and a half on Balt teasers

Maybe not on the forum, but definitely a higher % of bets on Houston overall. Around 60% give or take a few points depending where you look.

    Houston is +9 but -129

    Why do they do this?

Since nobody seems to have given you the correct answer I will give it a shot...

They are doing it to avoid giving people the opportunity to cross the 7 & 3 on 6pt (-110) teasers.

Instead of -7.5 (-110) which people can tease down past those two key numbers to less than a FG at standard juice, they post -9 (+119).. thus not allowing anybody to tease through those #'s.

They manipulate the juice to offer essentially the same spread, without giving teaser players a good line.

That's why instead of going from -7 to -7.5, they jump from -7 to -9 (+money). It is essentially the same spread.

    Hope that helps. BOL today.

This makes sense. Just went on to a local site

Picked up Baltimore and GB at -1 (2 team teaser) at -120. This made sense I think

Interestingly enough, when Pinny finally moved off BAL -9 and brought the line down to where it should be (-7.5 and in the teaser window), they moved the GB spread off -7.5 and up to -9 (+money) at the exact same time.

They don't want to leave BOTH games in that teaser window.

Also be aware, they do the same thing for spreds under -3.

They jump from -1 to -3 and manipulate the juice accordingly, to avoid giving teaser players the option to hit the dog UP through the 3 and 7 on a standard 6pt -110 tease.

    Same philosophy.

If you learn to read this, it can be a big advantage.

Like when NYJ went to Philly a couple weeks back..

Almost all books had PHI -3 (+100), (+105) etc.

The LV Hilton had PHI -2.5 (-110). All other books refused to move off the 3 and just charged extra juice for the Jets. The Hilton was more than willing to leave the jets in the window and in turn give people NYJ +8.5 in their teasers.

That told me, the books were expecting an Eagles blowout. They ended up stomping all over the Jets that game.

Also that was when the perception was very low on the Eagles and everybody was expecting the Jets to win outright, lending more weight to the fact that the Hilton wasn't worried about +8.5, and merit to the argument.

That should tell you something.  Both winners.  If I can't get both at -0.5 I will still take GB at -2.

Because they had so much on Balt -7.5 that they wanted to lure people on the Hou +9 at heavy juice knowing people would grab that

Got them both at -1.5 earlier at the Greek for half a unit (-110) but I'm worried about the second leg..

BAL is really my play today.

    Good call.

Like a dummy instead of playing Baltimore -7, I did a smaller straight bet and a whole bunch of big dollars on various teasers
