This line stinks to high heaven and if it's one thing that I find myself being pretty darn good at, and that's reading into the lines.
Why is it that a very good team like the bears at home are only a three point favorite?
Because they will not cover this spread and this deceptive line tells me so
Bet rivers has the line set with no change since opening at:
Bears -3 at a -106 but if you want to play on Detroit it's juiced at Detroit+3 at a whopping -118
Why is this?
I'll tell you why.... because it's falsely letting you believe the play is chicago and the Chicago -3 at -106 is a steal but I know otherwise.... it's NOT! .....the play is most certainly and I will play it because I may be a bit nieve at times but I'm not stupid.
Detroit+ 3 (-118 Bet Rivers) Pay the high juice or lower if you can he it as Detroit covers if not straight up wins here
I normally don't make a play on my home team because it usually bites me in the ass!
But with this line manipulation it's just to hard to pass!

The line at bet rivers has been idle at -3 Chicago for awhile as I've been following since last week
And if betters have found the line at opening at their betting venues at Bears -1.5 and have now witnessed a line move in Detroits favor then this is more the reason why Detroit is the play here with even more value.
The line and it's juice still tells me that Detroit is the play here Sac and good luck to you this weekend as well.
My play here is and will be on Detroit and I will be curious to see how the line and it's counterpart (the juice) moves along because this is no doubt Detroit's Superbowl and the Motivation for them to win will be second to none!

The Detroit Lions will be motivated to win against the Chicago Bears due to divisional rivalry pride, the desire to spoil Chicago's playoff seeding, and to avoid a losing season.
While the Lions have been eliminated from playoff contention, there is still plenty at stake for the team:
Spoiling a Rival's Playoff Position: A win for the Lions would prevent the Bears from automatically securing the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs, potentially forcing them to play a tougher opponent in the first round. Detroit players and staff have explicitly mentioned their desire to "crush the Bears hopes" in a similar fashion to a past season finale where the Lions spoiled the Green Bay Packers' playoff chances.
Divisional Pride and Rivalry: Division games are always intense, regardless of playoff implications. The Lions will be playing for pride to end their season on a positive note and assert their dominance over an NFC North rival that they previously beat 52-21 earlier in the season.
Avoiding a Losing Season: The Lions will be motivated to secure a victory to avoid their first losing season since 2021.
Coaching Matchup: The Bears' head coach, Ben Johnson, was previously the Lions' offensive coordinator. The Lions may have added motivation to beat their former coach for a second time this season.
Momentum and Draft Positioning: A win helps the team finish strong and carry some positive momentum into the offseason. The outcome also affects their final positioning for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Despite the Lions being out of the playoff picture, the game is not meaningless for them, and they are expected to play with high intensity.

If you are using bet Rivers(casino in Rosemont), then ofcourse they would open -3. They have to protect against local bettors.
I'm just telling you that the line did in fact open -1.5 consensus, everywhere else.
I'm not arguing which side is the right one or not, I don't have a formed opinion as of yet.
Also, we look to have differing opinions on how we read lines. To each is own.
I don't really read much into them, I have a # in mind already and try to isolate the lines where there is the most perceived value. Other people's $ moves the lines more than anything. Let em.

I have made three previous plays regarding reading into lines and all three have won (as posted on my season thread)
I'm not saying this is going to win as well, but only to say that Detroit has a motivation that stresses out many factors to the spoiler role in this game including but not limited to their season ending record as a winning season 9-8 compared to a losing season 8-9, that Loss to Minnesota ending their season has them vengefully motivated and yes the Bears have some motivation of their own no doubt and this game will be interesting to watch per my assessment of it with regarding to reading into what the line is telling me in which in my years of handicapping has been a very valuable tool in my tool box.
You are correct to each their own in the way they handicap and as always I appreciate what you have and what you continue to bring to this forum and thanks for your thoughts..... Happy New Year Sac

This is why a mindset Gambler like yourself blows a chance on what I see as a valid play on Detroit
Though you are correct into thinking that he sucks and would like to pass on this game with that nightmarish performance last week with Minnesota and rightfully so....it was bad
But please do realized that he still posses a high ranking Amongst NFL quarterbacks and will be looking forward to playing the Chicago Bears this week to solidify that status and play well to offset his past performance with Minnesota.
Listen I call it the way I see it so you can tail, fade or pass...your money your choice
But I believe Goff comes to play hard this week and the low line tells me that to be so and for this game and as a bear fan or not which I am.... I'm taking Detroit in this matchup.

I’ve taken Caleb Williams over 230.5 passing yards. If this game is anything like it should be, the bears should be able to hit on some explosive pass plays. Detroits secondary is putrid. But believe it or not, I’ll be rooting for Detroit to win the game. I think I’ll have a better chance of hitting on this play if Detroit is competitive and can take the lead a few times. Worst case scenario for me is that Chicago can control the game on the ground and that Goff can’t do anything with his offense. But on the bright side I see a scenario where Chicago just wants to absolutely thump them in every possible way. After the earlier meeting, Ben Johnson maybe runs up the score and really tries to bury his former team. Either way, the passing game for Chicago should be able to get going. GL on your play

Thanks bud for your thoughts and yes Ben wants to win this game convincingly no doubt but No way do I see a lopsided game here, but do see a team in Detroit with fire in their eyes and very bitter about last week's loss and it's season going south, with a chance here to show face and end their season with a winning record and NOT a losing record and what better way to do that then to beat their division rival in a meaningful game for them on their own homefield. I think the motivation here for Detroit makes for a very close and competitive game.
Good luck this week on your plays as well b2ll2w
