Colts sign Philip Rivers

44 year old grandfather expected to start against Shithawks on Sunday. Hasn't thrown a pass in 5 years but was signed because he is familiar with the offense. 

Colts have to be the favs to win the superbowl.  

You gotta believe there is over a hundred QB's on the couch who have played D1 or played in the NFL in the last 5 years better then him.

I like Colts +13.5 to cover at Seattle, & this was before getting Rivers, hes a step up on the backups even at 44 years old. Question is, how rusty will he be, still think they cover.

That's what I was thinking. BUT he knows this offense lol. 

They would have been better off signing the couch he's been sitting on....

Still can't see him playing on Sunday but if he does he might not last long against a very good Seattle D. He was a statue in his prime. If Leonard can't go (knee) on Sunday then at this point it will be Rivers starting. Crazy stuff! 

You beat me to it, Buffalo. I was going to mention Rivers famliarity with Steichen's offense came into play.

I personally hope he doesn't take a snap because a) I don't want the Chargers to have to face the Colts with him behind center and b) I don't want Rivers' Hall of Flame eligibility clock to re-set another 5 years before he can enter.

It would make for great television, though.

Last I saw Rivers he was looking a little chubby, but he's never been a mobile QB and I think that's where his weight would affect him most. (He wasn't big, just looked like he put on some extra weight that someone who was constantly conditioning wouldn't have.) 

He is one of the smartest QBs I've ever seen on the field, though. He can read defenses on a level that Brady could and would often call out the defenses for incorrect alignment and would taunt them on that (as JJ Watt pointed out). I think he'll have no trouble acclimating as the Colts O-line is stout. 

But, yeah, I hope he doesn't take another snap.

Unreal signing for colts. His processing was always elite. They just gonna ask him to throw the ball in 2-2.5 seconds...

Question is will teams just try to force him to throw it deep and take away everything underneath

Doubt he just forgot how to play QB. Plus he been coaching so hes been around the game all this time off

I would hope Riley Leonard gets the start if he can go. A younger, more mobile qb that just spent the last 15? 10? Years playing football nonstop seems like the better choice to me.

I miss Rivers as I always admired his accuracy and grit. I get your concerns but who knows how this will turn out.

 He hasn't played in 5 years. Wow, he won't be on any active roster. If he signs a game contract, his HOF status will be another 5 year wait. He can't be that stupid. 

Nick Foles was a Colt and he is the comeback king also 10 years younger then Rivers 

I always thought that he had one of the weakest arms there were, but boy did he lead his wr's perfectly with his throws. The dude understood his arm strength(or lack there of) and still made great throws with anticipation. 

At this point I get the feeling that he thinks he can get the Colts into the playoffs? Their schedule sure is tough down the stretch, not sure that is going to happen regardless of who the QB is. 

I shudder to think about what Seattle or Houston’s defense will do to this man. I commend him for his bravery.

He's come back to the help the Chargers in a different way. The Colts meet the Jags in the WC, should it line up that way, and slay the Jags for the Chargers, who can't seem to beat them on their own. 

I dont think the Colts can get into the playoffs even with Rivers. They were 8-2 going into the bye week & are 0-3 after the bye. Before the bye they were favorites to win their division, they now sit at +2200 to win division. The division is between the Jaguars & Texans. I dont think the Colts will get into the playoffs unless they win 3 of their last 4 games.

 I agree with your statement. We can almost attribute the Colts losing streak to Daniel Jones fibula. Shane Steichen's rpo system was tough as hell to defend. The Colts ran shotgun(mostly the pistol) at a 93.8% clip, tops in the league. Also using no huddle 67.2% of the time. By far the most in the nfl with the Saints 2nd most at 23.4%.

I find it hard seeing old man Rivers running rpo's and no huddle moving forward. 

What is Anthony Richardson's status? You'd think he'd be a guy given a 2nd chance to run his system. Or maybe he's too hurt, too stupid, or both?

 When Richardson got hurt in the preseason the Colts finally found their out. They didn’t draft a quarterback and pick up a veteran for no reason. The Colts are a good organization that had Peyton bring them a division title 7 times in 8 years. Followed shortly after by a generational talent in Andrew Luck who got them two more. I don’t think the Colts want Richardson to start another game if they can help it.
