Old man sounds like a damn fool ... If you can manage a winning record then whats the problem?

    "Buying fancy things" ROFL

Who wins a bet and just blows it all on fancy things thinking they're on top of the world? If you do have that mentality its a good thing you're quitting.

I just got word that the old man needs Notre Dame to beat Marquette tonight to finish off a 4-team round robin.  He was asked if he'll quit betting if he hits this ticket, and he reportedly answered "What?  No, hell with that!"

I asked him why and he said "it feels good when you win. You feel like you're on top of the world, you buy a lot of nice and fancy things and you feel great. But when the money starts to go thin and you are looking for another big win, you end up losing and in the process you lose back all of the things you bought with the money you won previously.  Even when you win you're really losing. It's a losing game"

I never really thought about it that way, but the old man made a lot of sense. I have a good paying job, but I would like more money which is why I gamble on sports, but what I now understand is that making fast money is just as fast to lose.

From now on I am going to play it safe and just continuing working at my job and saving my money. Deciding to get out of gambling early. Slow and steady wins the race I guess

i had same thing older guy who caps games but he was very successful at it, this is what he taught me. u set a bankroll to start at, play 5% for each bet, and stick to only flats maybe once inna while a 2 team parlay for 2%. slow and steady is how u make money at this, you DONT NEED TO BET EVERYGAME OR EVERYDAY, find spots. ANY PROFIT IS GOOD PROFIT LONG TERM. he always said to me its not a horse race its a marathon. he makes his living betting sports, too bad i lost contact with him..gl with whatever you choose to do, just thought i had a lil insight for ya.

look man. dont bother giving failures good advice. most people who have learning curves can figure out a winning angle. The hard part, the impossible part, is sticking to the game plan.

I found that my emotions are the biggest problem. i just get real carried away by 1 play & throw out all the rules, go big. i always lose when i am impulsive & aggressive. its when i bet small & slow, then i pull in the cash. in the end, i pick a few more winners than losers. but lose anyway because the winners were small & the losers were large.

ef'n bioch of a game we play.

So long Loser next time why dont you tell your grandma this pretty story

Just follow the golden rule in gambling.

"Do not gamble money you cannot afford to lose"

If you follow this rule, then you should be fine. If you do not, then this is when you can get in trouble.

..If this isnt your thing then get out , whats the point in making this big anouncement,.This story is assine to begin, and if you are influenced so much on what someone who obviously didnt kno how to handel the ups and downs of gambling and need to stop then  good luck . For me its a hobby im in my 50s never had to sell things to pay off debts ,obviously theres winning and losing . it how u deal with it and how u approach it. Seems like you were tring to make it a second job ,that mite of been your biggest mistake/ Only another loser will agree with your statement .Like This tony b dude.

gambling should no way affect youre rent, bank accounts or any thing else in youre life.if it does than yes you should get out and get out fast because its just going to get worse.you should only bet with $ you can afford to lose, that does not effect your lifestyle in any way.so be smart my friend because gambling can ruin your life if you can not afford it!

I dont make big bets and do it as a hobby so when I lose it doesnt break me.  Some people do make a living out of it.  Just depends on if you're any good.

I have been playing for 20 years. I have won only 1 of them. I don't play to win money, I play for the entertainment value. Also, keeps me from having to spend time with my wife. price-less!
