It's not real basketball, just like the HR derby isn't real baseball. The solution is simple: teams with leads don't have a live 3-pt line, only trailing teams or tied situations do. NBA could install the actual lines with lights, where only a live line lights up so players wouldn't have to continually look at the scoreboard to know if they were on to shoot a live 3 or not, they'd just have to look down to the court in front of them.
