I hate to defend the pathetic Mariners, but they’re not actually pathetic.
They had a 5-game losing streak in early April followed by a 4-game winning streak and then a 4-game losing streak. They haven’t lost 4 in a row since.
They had a 3-game losing streak in the beginning of May and another one in the middle of May. They didn’t lose 3 in a row again until yesterday. Last night’s loss broke a streak of 7 straight wins that followed back-to-back losses.
You gotta wonder why this line isn’t -150 when the Mariners are at .500 while the Rays are 17 games over .500. The Rays have the best home record in baseball at 33-14 while the Mariners are 20-27 on the road.
On the other hand, the Rays are off a humbling home loss, and you’d figure the team with the best home record in baseball would be deadly at home off a home loss, but the Rays are not. They’re just 7-5.

Nick Martinez has historically struggled against the Seattle Mariners, posting a 0-4 record with a 4.58 ERA and 19 strikeouts across 6 starts and 3 relief appearances in his career.
May be the reason for a low line??

And you can file this under This May Mean Nothing. The first five times the Mariners played this season when entering with a .500 record (not counting 0-0), they went just 1-4. But the last five times they played this season when entering with a .500 record, they went 4-1.
Twelve days ago the Mariners entered their series finale in Cleveland with a 42-42 record. They carried a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th where knucklehead relievers Michael Rucker (ERA 6.75) and Josh Simpson (ERA 9.00) teamed up to allow 4 hits, 3 walks, and 5 runs in an eventual 6-5 defeat. Simpson has not been seen since and is believed to have been shot and later dissolved in a barrel of hydrofluoric acid.
Or at least that's what should have happened to him.

Wow! What interesting reading. Lots of good info there. Enjoy reading the information with the statistics that goes along with it. Thank you guys for sharing. Always looking forward to data and statistics that I haven't seen or read about in my own research. Handicappers like you two makes this forum worth while.

In the 2nd inning, the .166-hitting Raleigh hit a pitch that looked like a home run off the bat. But this isn’t 2025 anymore, it’s 2026, and the ball was caught at the wall. Raleigh looked surprised, almost dazed, as he returned to the Mariners dugout. His next two at-bats ended with swings and misses and also ended the top of the 4th and the top of the 6th.
