Pittsburgh Pirates +100
Over the last 30 days, no offense in baseball has a better OPS than the Buccos. Oddly enough, that almost exactly coincides with when Cruz broke his hand. Food for thought. Ashcraft has shown us glimpses of being a lights out guy on any given night, but he's had some rough outtings as well. Those rougher outtings came against fortified offenses though, and the Yankees aren't exactly that right now. As a matter of fact, in the last 30 days, they have the worst OPS in all of baseball. I think Ashcraft can miss some bats tonight, and the Pirates offense scores enough off Weathers, that the Yanks bullpen doesn't play an important role. The Pirates have won 5 straight games when Ashcraft has started, and 13-6 on the year.
Los Angeles Dodgers +120
Not often do you get the best team in the game at plus money, let alone +120, but I'm not gonna pass it up. Especially with how Sanchez has been pitching of late. His first half was a roller coaster. Early, he was untouchable, running a scoreless inning streak to 50.2 IP! But since then, he's had his ups and downs. The offense-less Royals tagged his for 9 ER on 12 H, over 3.1 right after the holiday, and the Tigers sprayed 10 H over 7 IP in his last start before the break. We all know how the All Star game went for him, so I'm going to feel just fine fading him tonight. Especailly against a Dodgers roster, that has success against him in the past, up and down it.
Boston Red Sox -1.5 +134
Two hottest teams going right now, but the Os is kinda fools gold for me. 7 straight is 7 straight, but KC isn't much of a fight, and Houston stinks too. They are running into a machine in the Sox right now. They are hitting a ton, and their pitching has been phenomenal. Tolle has been very good for the most part, and certainly as of late. I don't trust Baz, even though he won his previous start this against BOS. This isn't the same Bos team from 6 weeks ago.
Giants/Royals Under 10.5 -118
It's going to be hot in KC but no real wind factor, so not sure why such the high number, with two terrible offenses involved, but I'll bite. Wacha has been bad his last two starts, but prior to that he was really dealing. Hopefully the break gave him some rest, and he can reset, but even if not, I don't know where the Giants offense comes from. It's real bad. McDonald has been very serviceable all year for the most part, but again, the Royals aren't presenting a lot of problems themselves on offense, so he doesn't have to be lights out.
New York Mets +176
I'm taking a stab here with Peraltas return to Milwaukee. The Crew traded Peralta after a career year, and I'd imagine he has some emotions about that. I think the Crew know that too, as they originally didn't have The Miz slated to start today, but think they may need their best to win. The Mets are still struggling, but we've seen the guys in their line up hit before, and they can strike at anytime. At this price, and the extra motivation for Peralta, it's worth the shot for me.
