YTD (MLB PLAYOFFS): 1-1
I was incredibly lucky to get a 3 run bomb from Austin Riley to cash that over, but then snakebitten as Altuve beat out an infield grounder to third (strangely shall I add) as Murakami had his foot off the bag apparently. Well that let another run in, and the one that would push that game over the 8.5 as it finished 6-3.
There is a lot to like about today starting with the first game. For whatever reason, I think that Atlanta has Christopher Sanchez's number, as good as he is, given he has gone 0-5 record and a 3.26 ERA in nine games (eight starts) against them. Additionally, he has yet to win in the postseason even though he has been very good.
On the other side of the ball, the Braves will start Tyler Mahle, who will pitch in his first postseason game of his long career. He has been sensational for the Braves since they picked him up, going 4-1 with a 1.99 ERA in nine starts. He also pitched twice against the Phillies over the past month, going 1-0 with a sparkling 0.69 ERA, so he is familiar with them. Lastly, lifetime vs. Philadelphia, he is 2-2 with a 2.70 ERA, so he's no slouch.
The Braves clearly have the momentum now and that is a big factor in the postseason. Sanchez has NOT been good to finish off the season and the Phillies bullpen imploded again last night, which is who they are, though Duran had been excellent up to that point. NO chance you will see him (Duran) again today given how many pitches he threw yesterday, so there could be more late game drama if the Phillies have to figure that out.
I don't see a ton of runs here but I do know that these teams have played to the over in 6 of the past 9 games they have squared off. So I'm going to sit off the total and back a Braves team to finish off the Phillies who limped into the playoffs. The Braves are at home, they won't want to take their chances on the road and head back to Philly where they are clearly inferior.
ATLANTA (-106)...BIG PLAY!!!
As a reminder, all Big plays, win or lose, will count for two units to the record. Some plays I like even more so and I will state that when posting them. Manage your own bankrolls and do your research before tailing plays. I fully expect this to cash and have a couple others throughout the day but want to start with a game that I think is very much the Braves to lose. As always, tail or fade, good luck to all...
