MLB playoffs situation: some info for this week betting

AL Playoff Race — 6 Spots

Already clinched — AL East

• Rays
• Yankees
• Red Sox

Fighting for the remaining 3 spots

• Guardians
• White Sox
• Rangers
• Astros
• Blue Jays

AL Central:
The Guardians and White Sox are the most likely to secure the two remaining playoff spots from the Central Division.

AL West:
The Rangers and Astros are battling for what is most likely to be one playoff spot.

Blue Jays:
Toronto is on the outside looking in and has very little margin for error after missing opportunities last week.

The NL is considerably more settled.

Already clinched

• Brewers — NL Central
• Dodgers — NL West
• Braves — NL East

The three Wild Card positions are currently:

1. Cubs
2. Padres
3. Phillies

Arizona is 4 games behind Philadelphia for the final Wild Card, with only six games left.

• AL Central: Cleveland 82–76 leads Chicago White Sox 81–77 by 1 game.
• Chicago owns the season-series tiebreaker 7–6, so a tie at the end gives the division to Chicago. 
• AL West: Texas 78–80 and Houston 78–80 are tied.
• Houston owns the tiebreaker (9–4), so Houston currently holds the division position. 
• Wild Card: White Sox currently hold the final spot, 3 games ahead of both Texas and Houston.

NL — very tight Wild Card race

What to watch over these final 4 days

AL:
Guardians vs. White Sox is probably the most important race. If Chicago catches Cleveland, Chicago gets the Central title because of the tiebreaker.

AL West:
Astros vs. Rangers is also huge. They’re tied, but Houston has the tiebreaker.

NL: Diamondbacks vs. Padres this weekend. 

It’s been profitable fading the teams chasing playoff spots in the AL. I’m not sure if that trend will continue today or over the remaining games, but I’d be very cautious about backing those teams because the market may be charging a high premium for their playoff motivation.
