Or maybe regardless of the outcome of the Rangers game, hammer the Red Sox. The Red Sox has more to play for this game as a win can lock in the no.5 seed and they aren't afraid of the Yankees specially that Aaron Judge will not suit of during the Wild Card series.

yes the rangers play was just situational to sweeten the pot for the redsox/guardians game. If Red Sox will lose today the no 5 could be in jeopardy for them. Guardians, CWS and Astros are fairly healthy teams compared to the Yankees so they dont want to be in that spot. If they win today the no.5 spot is clinched regardless of the outcome of their series against the Cubs.
