ERA has nearly doubled for deGrom and it's still sub 1.00
Settled in after that bad 1st and struckout 8 in a row for a 14K day. Retired final 18 batters faced.
I do agree however, with the short outing sentiment for starters. They are trying too hard to protect guys from injuries by focusing on pitch count and that 'magic' 100 number. I feel like in recent years Verlander (prior to surgery) was the only starter consistently on the mound late in the game. Nothing like the starters of yesteryear tho..

Not a HOF player. By todays standards he would be, but when he played it was an era of great players, Mays Aaron, Mantle, Kaline, Yaz, Gibson, Koufax, both Robinson's, Clemente. The list is endless. There are a lot of players not in the Hall that played when he did. Tommy John great stat, but not in the Hall. Quite a few guys like that. Cash was a .271 hitter, 1,820 hits, 377 HR. Not really HOF stats for a guy who played in the 60's and 70's.
I refuse to belong to any organization that will have me as a member.

That’s my point. Today’s players have no business even being considered over guys like Cash and Gil Hodges. Might as well lock the doors to the Hall....

I'm a big Tiger fan, but Jack Morris is not a HOF player. The veterans committee needs to put Tommy John and Thurman Munson in there. Munson was having HOF career when he was killed. That's coming from a Yankee hater.

You forgot a guy named Musial in that list of great players. My top three that I got to watch were Mays/Aaron/Musial. Could easily add Brooks and Frank and Roberto. You must be about my age if you were fortunate enough to witness these guys play....That’s why it makes today’s players absolutely unwatchable. They would have never sniffed Single-A ball back then

Great thread . Loved the stardust. Best part was on Sunday evening when the opening lines for nfl came out. Crazy. Huge baseball fan when I was a little kid in Bay Area. First game I went to was a doubleheader between the Giants and Cubs on Sept 12 1965 when I was 5. Giants were in first but choked it away to Dodgers. The Giants starter in second game was Warren Spahn. Great memories
