The White Sox have a major bullpen advantage with Hagen Smith and Grant Taylor both available. Taylor hasn’t pitched since Saturday, while Smith threw just one quick inning Sunday, so both should be ready for multiple innings if needed.
Anthony Kay has been effective the first time through the order but tends to struggle once hitters see him again. I expect Chicago to have a short leash, especially in a close game, with Will Venable turning to Smith and Taylor at the first sign of trouble.
That’s the hidden value at -115. Several innings from Smith and Taylor can provide impact comparable to an elite starter, while Chicago has plenty of incentive to secure its playoff position.
If Kay keeps the White Sox competitive through the first three or four innings, Chicago can lean heavily on its best bullpen arms to close it out.
