Sold about 1/2 of my HERO this a.m. at 35.85. After reading the details on the merger w/Todco that I rec'd over the weekend I'm not real excited about the merger. And this is what they send out seeking shareholder approval. With more than the avg joe's annual salary invested in this company I felt the need to reduce my stake in this company.
Bought RAIL at 50.75 w/proceeds of HERO sale. This stock currently trades at 5 x 2006 EPS. Earnings are projected to come down this yr but the company had EPS of 1.80 in the 1st qtr of 2007. Assuming only $6 earnings in 2007 that's still only a PE just over 8. This company has been in business since the early 1900s and trades at a significant discount to it's competition despite equal or better profit margins. I could see myself holding this stock for yrs. With 3 yr old and 6 yr old sons who like trains it will be fun to point out RAIL's freight cars and tell them I own some(albeit very small part) of the company that built those.

funny i just bought alot of hero 2 days ago. I think this stock will go up in the next six months. Hurricanes ... we are expected to have at least 8 this year with and high oil prices how can u not like hero.
rail is interesting but i think u must be in love with warren buffet. rail is coming back somewhat but this is spec at best.

IROBOT (IRBT) up almost 6% today. Think this company has tremendous potential. They make the Roomba and Scooba and all that stuff but also sell robotic equipment for military purposes and are getting into all sorts of other applications for robotics. I have no doubt that robotics applications are only going to increase and this company will be there when they do. They are looking to acquire and grow their product line and are not limited to consumer stuff. Market cap under 500 million....tons of room to grow from there. Went public November '06 at over $35, now just a little more than half that at just over $19. This company has pretty big plans. Question is whether they can execute but if they do they have a huge potential for return IMO.

Great start on the trade, somthing about that stock just gave me a bad vibe, I dont know why..but I have never owned it. I dont see the market for their robot vacuums, but you are right that isnt going to push them forward, rather the other applications.

Best: My remaining HERO still represents about 30% of my portfolio(minus 401k investments). Did you read the details of the merger w/Todco and how much additional debt they are taking on? I still think the stock is a winner but I'm just not as big a believer after getting more info on the merger.
Also, I just read the Tao of Warren Buffett and have a ton of respect for the guy. I don't think he has been buying any RAIL stock but he has made a sizable investment in one of the railroad companies which certainly didn't discourage my investment in RAIL.

Robotics is in its late infancy and should take off in the next 5-10 years. Good time to get ahead of the curve now. It's that far off IMO. One of the next "waves" along with genomics. IMHO....or I could be completely wrong.

Instead, I'm referring to Bill Gates now seemingly seminal piece in Scientific American on robots, A Robot in Every Home.
While it took a very Microsoft-centric approach to the topic, the
Redmonian's missive on automatons has turned on people in industry,
media and now, apparently, in the US Congress.
This week Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Doyle and Tennessee
Congressman Zach Wamp announced the creation of a Congressional caucus
on Robotics, which will have an official kick-off this Sept. In a brief
press release, Doyle and Wamp note that "Microsoft Corporation chairman
Bill Gates has stated his belief that the robotics industry is
developing in much the same way that the computer business did 30 years
ago." Where the stunning commercial success of iRobot Roomba and the
explosion of industrial and military robots in the last decade failed,
Gate's comments were apparently enough to spark new congressional
interest in robots of all stripes.
The good news is that, in addition to promoting robotics awareness,
dealing with robot-policy issues and educating other members of
congress on all things robotics (first, they might want to learn about
computers and the Internet-thingy), the caucus will focus on "Ensuring
that our nation remains globally competitive as the robotics industry
rapidly expands and begins to exert a profound effect on the way our
citizens live their lives." Sounds great. Now let's see if the caucus
can avoid spending all its time debating robot ethics.

the debt is not that big of a problem when u look at the year over year growth of this company . They can eliminate the debt in 3 years then the sky is the limit u just mark my words son!

IRBT up another 4% today. Bill Gates didn't get become the richest man in the world by not being ahead of the technology curve. I could see this company being bought eventually by a MSFT or an AAPL. At 10X the current market cap that is.
