up from 80,529,000 when obama took office in 2009

do you know people unemployed? people who stopped looking? people down and out? what is your story?

they will be charging you to park your car in vegas because they know homelessness will be a big problem soon.

Numbers can be anything you want them to be.

Figures Lie and Liars figure.

I am one of the 94,708,001.

Retired at age 58.  Still retired at age 59.  I will never "work" again.

Why?  Because I don't have to.  Positive cash flow.

Income property, investments, annuity, pension.

Yes, "I dropped out of the work force".

NEVER believe ANY numbers that the Gov puts out.

There are a number of parameters to look at how this country is declining.  The OP brought up the number of folks out of the workforce.  Sure, a number are due to baby-boomers retiring, but it is more than that.   The labor force participation rate has been declining for years, and is not a good omen for things to come in future decades.

To be sure, the economy has been underperforming for more than a decade .  Look at it from a GDP perspective of barely 2%.   Quite a downshift from 3% of previous decades.

So what is to blame ?   O'bama?  Honest question to you folks on the left.  What has he done to advance the economy ?  ( I hear crickets).

Surely, he has "contributed" to the lackluster state our country finds itself in.  He has added numerous regulations, including Dodd-Frank , Obamacare, and other regulations that do nothing but constrict business advancement, and growth of an economy.

Do you guys know that Dodd-Frank is 23x as big as Glass-Stiegel, which was the country's response to the Great Depression.  In short, leave to the Dems to go nuts on regulations in response to the Great Recession.   Just too much, and business growth suffers.

 Ahhhh Yes,  Good Times.

CBS news reported this not the government... Ask the government and the 0 administration will tell you that everything is better and it was all Bush's fault...

The country is in serious decline, especially after our first EOE president has wrecked it for 8 years and doubled the debt... Just give the corrupt pants suit a term and it'll have no chance of ever rebounding.

Under the Manchurian Candidate the labor participation rate(The # of people who could work but don't work) has gone from 64% t0 60%.Things were not great the last year of Bush but the difference is under Obama the increase in non-working# was encouraged.

These record #'s of Americans 16 or older who would like to,
but cannot find work, has been over 60% for Obama's terms.
He's managed the record, 38-year low, according to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics.

It will take someone living outside the USA to tell the truth:
E.g., "The Secret Life of Bill Clinton: The Unreported Stories"
~Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

British Intelligence Adviser: Stanley Ann Dunham is NOT
Barry Soetoro's (aka Barack Obama) Real Mother
~Freedom Outpost

Who'd be foolish enough to hope that such a bold liar would
be out to be the working, average American's best team-mate?

There was an article on CNBC's website today about the "Frightening amount" of people dropping out of the workforce.

A Harris poll of some of the dropouts indicated:

  • 83 percent say economic benefits are skewed to the rich.
  • 66 percent say they don't apply for minimum-wage jobs because the pay is too low.
  • The unemployed are spending just 11.7 hours a week looking for work.
  • More than half — 51 percent — say they haven't had a job interview since 2014.
  • I noticed the question of : "What are you doing to better yourself and get back in the workforce?" was not asked.

At some point people need to look in the mirror and adjust to the changing times.

What do you tell a person in their 40's/50's that has been schooled/trained/worked a certain industry all their lives that cannot find work in that area? Go back to school, ie go deeper in debt, so you can compete with college grads half your age for a job? Granted, that is just a % of the problem but it is a real  problem.

That's exactly what you tell them. Except for the part about going deeper in debt.  Should not be too much in debt anyway. Certainly should pay for school as you go.  Even can get schooling paid for while unemployed sometimes, etc.
But the question is:  if you don't tell them that, what do you tell them to do?  Sit back and do what is not working out for them?  Sadly, just because grandad and dad retired from the steel mill or furniture factory---you cannot. They aren't there. You have to adapt and change.  Nobody wants to. It is what it is though.  There isn't a need for horse and buggy whips or typewriter salespeople. It has always been this way. It is tough if you happen to be in that situation of course. But you have to help yourself when things change!

If you have the means to place wagers, you have the means to get an online certificate of some sort. Specified training will move you to the top of the candidate list real quick. I was selling running shoes my first six years out of college and finally got tired of making 11 bucks an hour and being called Al Bundy. I had enough. I bit the bullet, spent the almost 2k on a paralegal certificate, and now I am rolling. People are afraid to take chances, but that shouldn't be an issue for people who gamble. Unless they don't want to work.......
