Was thinking about the game and understand it and stuff. If you bring like $400 to a $10 table which I know is not alot, what do you all figure is the best way to grind it out (meaning drink like a fish for a long time and not get hurt)? 6 and 8 place bet? Roll with the streaks on the don't or pass with no more than one time odds? Obviously with only $400 on a $10 table you do not have the $$$ to place heavy odds like I know you should. A few seven outs and you'd be wiped out.
ANY INSIGHT HERE IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

I am a grinder when I play and I tend to try and buck trends, which does and doesnt work..like waiting to see a trend developing and either riding the DO side trend, or bucking the DONT trend by placing the point.
We had a great discussion about this with rickster and there is no way to win longer term, so pass with full odds is the way to go, or place point if the come out guy is rolling junk...

This brings up another question...Do you think that so-called online craps system will work on a real table? You know the play the pass line small...wait until a 7 is rolled...Then go heavy on 4-10...pick up all the chips after the winnings...Then wait again for the next seven...then repeat the steps!...Will they allow you to do this strategy at the table...Its seems like it may work somewhat! The odds of a back to back 7 is like 1 and 36 or something like that...

Does anyone actually take math and science in to effect before handing out this horseshit advice?
I am amazed that anyone at covers actually gambles with real money.
Here is the golden rule of crap: EVERY BET ON THE TABLE HAS A NEGATIVE EXPECTED VALUE.
That means, the more you bet, the more you can expect to lose. Some bets are worse than others. The best bet on the craps table is a line bet (or dont bet) with full odds, but it is still a negative EV value bet.
Throw in placing 6 and 8, and somehow determining if the shooter is "good or bad", or waiting for patterns - is all some of the worst advice on covers since Crush advised baking a pie for a girl you want to take out.

Rolling a 7 is more like 1-6, and that goes for every roll, so everytime you pick up the dice 1 out of 6 times you'll roll a 7. If you roll a 7 then your next roll has the same odds.
There is no sure way to beat craps but if you know how to set the dice you can increase your odds while still at a disadvantage.
There are several ways you can grind it out and stay at the table longer, but if you stay long enough the casino will take your money.
1) probably the best way with value is to back the pass line and limit 2 come bets for each roll. at a $10 2x table this will cost you about $120 a roll. Unfortunately, with $400 you're not going to get far, unless the table is hot.
2) bet the 6/8 with odds all night this will cost you $24 a roll.
3) bet the hardways all night this willonly cost you $4 if your just betting the min.
If you're going to stand at a $10 table with $400 I would suggest just betting the pass line and back it with 1 bet instead of max odds, then you can put out $4 on the hardways for a cheap thrill. learn to set the dice and bet the pass line and 2 come bets on your roll.
The 5 point system works pretty well too but you have to really pay attention to make sure your money is safe, because it can get confusing.

I just read that rickster thread and it makes sense, I can't believe I never thought of that before.
I remember when I first started playing years ago I was at the golden nugget and the dealer kept on telling me to just press my bets, I did and happened to hit a lucky streak but it never occured to me that you lose small or win big off the casinos money.

IF a 6/8 is hit I take the winnings ($14) and wait for the next roll. When the 6/8 is hit again I press both the 6 and 8 up a unit and receive $2 change. So as of now I have only lost $8 from the original $24 I originally risked on the 6 and 8 to begin with. I continue to alternate pressing both and just taking the winnings so that I recoup my original investment and gain winnings while having the only money on the table be basically the "casino's" money. Also try to recoup what you put down on the table before going crazy with full pressing and placing other #s from numbers you have placed and were hit.
Now the other # either the 4 or 10. I do this because sometimes you get a person who will roll 4 and 10s and the payout is great. If I have a 10 and it gets rolled I will usually buy the ten immediately instead of taking the $18 win. So you would get $2 change and have the 10 or 4 bought. Now if one of those #s is hit you get paid $50 (have to drop $1 for vig). Also if I feel that a 4 or 10 will not be rolled again I will move it to the 5 or 9.
Early 7s suck for this way of playing but if someone is rolling a 6/8 and you recoup your money quick; you have a good chance or winning osme good cash with the pressing of the #s after recouping your original investment.

My best advice is if you wanna get a cheap drunk, sit at the bar and play optimum strategy video poker while drinking for free. You can milk your plays forever at the same time getting 98% + return. Then if you want to play craps, go to a table with a goal in mind. If your goal is to win 5 units, then if you hit that goal leave the table no matter if it's been 10 min or 2 hrs. Set a loss goal also.
This is tough to do because it takes discipline. It depends what your goals are. I love to sit at a table for hrs, but it's a losing proposition. I've seen so many people hit a great hot streak and sit there and put it all back in and then some. I prefer to force myself to get up after a profitable streak, hit the bar, and reflect and feel good about being ahead and "beating" the game. I find gambling much more enjoyable if you take a little while to enjoy the high moments instead of rushing to give the money back.

I call it hit and run and love to do it with the old lady when we go to the bahamas! Go down to casino and move in and out of craps to slots and back. FUN and the right way to do it!

Yeah, it's tough for me to do because when you're winning it seems so easy to continue that streak. My "system" at the time seems like it could grind a profit all day. Then all of a sudden the luck turns, you chase, and leave the table down money and pissed off.
If you set a loss limit and leave during a hot streak, at the end of the day you'll come out ahead of nearly everyone you're gambling with. Every time.
