This is one of those matchups where style makes all the difference. Delaware wants to sling it around with Nick Minicucci, who’s been solid in their first FBS season, but they live through the air. When they’ve faced teams that can push them around up front, their drives stall and the defense starts bleeding clock. That’s where Jacksonville State comes in.
The Gamecocks’ ground game is legit. They’re running for almost 280 yards per game and close to six per carry. Cam Cook is a problem for any defense right now. He’s powerful, but what really hurts you is the tempo JSU creates with the QB run packages. It’s old-school, downhill football mixed with zone-read deception, and it wears on opponents. Delaware’s front has been giving up about 5.9 yards per play this season, and that’s not the stat you want when the other side plans to hand it off forty times.
Defensively, JSU isn’t a pushover either. They can get gashed through the air at times, but they’re not busted. Their secondary gives up yards but usually keeps a lid on deep balls, and the pass rush can bother quarterbacks who hold it too long. Minicucci can move, but he’s going to be under pressure if they can’t stay ahead of the chains. Delaware’s been inconsistent in the red zone too, and settling for field goals is a killer when the other team is chewing up eight-minute drives.
I like how this game sets up. JSU’s run game travels, their defense hits harder than people realize, and at home they can lean on that crowd and the clock. I see Delaware struggling to get off the field on third and three, getting frustrated, and eventually watching the game slip away in the fourth quarter.
Give me Jacksonville State +3. I think they keep it close all night and might even win it outright if they stay clean on turnovers.
Nothing too crazy like the other night, Im throwing 5 units.
