SNF: You need experience to defend well against offense like the spread and triple-option. An example would be TCU vs Air Force early this year where Air Force actually put up 19 points on a young TCU defense. Luckily for TCU, Patterson is fantastic against the triple option. And if you want recent results then you can look at TCU vs BYU where BYU actually put up 28 points and probably would have put up even more if not for turnovers on an relatively inexperienced TCU defense. TCU held both teams to single digits the previous year.

I forgot to mention that Tulsa has to travel about 1000 miles or something like that to Orlando. Not too worried about the travel time though. And starters do matter, just look the UCF from this year to the UCF from last year. It's a huge downgrade, especially offensively. Both teams have 4 days rest, but yeah Tulsa needs to travel abroad.

You're taking 1- very broad examples and 2- an extremely small sample size just to prove your point
I get what you were trying to do in terms of TCU's D was better last year to this year's and struggled against option and spread teams this year compared to last, but it failed..
If we are looking at that, shouldn't we also look at the fact Tulsa's offensive production is down almost 20% from last year? So regardless of the returning offensive players, the coaching change, new scheme, etc. are all doing its part of off-set the fact that they returned more offensive starters 10 weeks ago
UCF has faced 'spread' offenses this year.. and again, no one is 'inexperienced' in November... The only way I could see your pt was if Tulsa ran the triple option or some variation and most of there players had yet to see it this season.. even then, 10 weeks in, it'd be a stretch..

UCF has hardly faced any spread offenses this year. SMU and UAB plays a pro-style offense, and so does marshall with the addition of a 4 wide. Memphis does use the spread and Boston college uses it occasionally. Flint also uses a pro style with split backs. And I don't know what Charles Southern uses. Tulsa' offensive production is down, and it's because of the absence of Damaris Johnson. I noted his absence in the beginning of the matchup. UCF stopped Memphis and BC at home, 2 very bad teams with inept offenses. What makes you think they can stop Tulsa.
