Here is my list of potential traps that are already circled for the upcoming season. List any one that I don't have on there to give everyone a heads up.
Texas v. Oklahoma State (Oct 25):
The Cowboys find themselves in a great position when they play Texas, as the Horns will be in the middle of an SECesque gauntlet that includes games at Oklahoma, at home against Mizzou, Oklahoma State, then at Texas Tech. I feel that Okie St has a great chance here.
Ohio St v. Troy (Sept. 20):
I realize this will probably not happen, but anything is possible when you are forced to put all your chips on the table the week before at Southern Cal. Win or lose that game, Troy will be up to the task when they enter The Horseshoe, or at least I think...
Alabama v. Arkansas St. (Nov. 1):
This one scares the crap out of me and every other Tide fan, though most won't admit it. The Indians
will come to T-Town sandwiched beautifully in between trips to Knoxville and Baton Rouge. They also saw what happened last year when ULM came to town in about the same situation. Let some mid-major think they have a chance, and you find yourself in a ballgame.
Clemson at Virginia (Nov. 22):
The only reason I say this is a potential trap is because by this time, Clemson could very well be undefeated looking ahead to a rivalry game in order to get them into the NC game. So if they just put it into cruise control against the Cavs while looking ahead to the regular season finale against the Spurriers, this game could end all hopes of a national championship. Not the true definition of "trap" but it could hold some weight.
USC at Stanford (Nov. 15):
Nevermind... not this year. Utter beatdown for the Cardinal. This is going to be reminiscent of the time I finally got a clean kick to my older brother's nuts (as it was my only defense) and sent him to the ground briefly. He got up, guarded his nuts, and proceeded to beat me without mercy. USC = my older brother. Stanford = RIP.
WVU v. Syracuse (Oct. 11):
Sandwiched in between what has been a fairly pivotal conference game of recent years (at least one that they've had to play hard in, except last year, but you get my point) in Rutgers, as well as one of my top 3 OOC games of the year to watch in Auburn. If Syracuse will ever have a chance to get the 'Neers when they're not looking, now's the time.
Michigan v. Toledo (Oct. 11):
The Rockets will come to town in the middle of a Big 11 mini-gauntlet of Wisconsin and Illinois, then Penn State follows. This one my be close at the final whistle.
That's all for now. Add to the list if you have more.
