An American Pope. What were the odds.. unreal A Villanova graduate . I called my best friend who graduated from Villanova yesterday and his sister in law went to school with Robert Provest now Leo the 14th. Watching the Cardinals in the Sistine chapel nominating and voting on the new Pope broght back many memories. My father who was working for the United Nations staitioned in Camp Darby Livorno Italy was assigned to the US Army. He was in Rome in 1944 on June 6th when D-day in Normandy took place He was with Genreals Clarks 5th Army and a part of the AMG Allied Milatary Goverment because he spoke fluent Italaian and taught Italian at Teddy Roosevelt HS in the Bronx before being drafted. In 1959 we had a audience with Pope Pius X1 1ST with 24 people in the room I was the only child so Pius had me stand in front of him with his hands over my head. as everyone else got a team Picture . Also have a picture of me kissing Pope Paul V1 ring as a part of the CYO group from Camp Darby .I remember my father always saying only Italians could be Popes because the Italian Cardinals out number the other Cardinals 3-1 and they would never give up that advantage . But they voted for a Polish Pope and now an American Pope. Wish you were alive Dad today to see things have changed so much anyway when my oldest Daughter who teaches here in Austin went to Italy with me we entered the sixteen chapel . To get to the Sixteen chapel you have to go through about 4 or 5 big rooms or chambers. She was 11 yrs old and we walked in the room There were 2 carbinaro { state troopers] at both entrances. We were alone in the room and we layed down to look up at Michangelo's painting on the ceiling. I guess that's a big no no but since we were alone the carbinaro jesterd it was Ok We both layed down and looked up at Micangelos's ceiling painting Maybe for about 2 or 3 minutes then One of the carbinaro whistled at us to stand up, Some tourist were getting close to our chamber . We both got up and I thanked them for allowing us to lay down and look up at the ceiling I was telling my wife this story this morning I will call my daughter later today and see if see still remembers all of this She was only 11 years old . anyway we have an American Pope Leo Take Villanova -5 in its 1st basketball game this year and if both refs are catholic put ****** on it Will call my daughter later today and see what she remembers of our Sixteen Chapel day Back later with her recollection. We have a Pope Leo who graduated from Villanova . Now he is from Chicago and both White Sox and Cub fans are claiming he was there fan . Only St Peter knows the true answer... Dad I hate to say it but you were wrong. The Cardinals voted for an American Pope

I think his brother said he's not a Cubs fan on TV yesterday but I'm not sure. If he's a White Sox fan they could use some divine intervention to win 60 games which would be on par with Jesus walking on water

Great story
