    2017 Record: 3-6

Tonight we do what we've never done before: We take both Temple Owl MEN and WOMEN!!

    First the men:

    Whammy #1 (Men)

    Temple -2 over UCF

This is the classic bettor "Jump off the Temple bandwagon" game.

They lost outright to the woeful ECU Pirates and then when the world came back and expected them to handle UCONN +2, they lead the entire game handily, collapsed, and gave it up at the buzzer to lose by 1.

Now they give an unremarkable UCF another +2 and the square and sharp alike get skittish. Don't run the other way. Take the Owls in statement game against solid but underwhelming competition they need to beat convincingly to have confidence going into the conference tournament.

    Whammy #2 (Women)

    Temple +27.5 over UConn.

There is one reason for this play. Her name is Kia Nurse. She is injured and will not play in her second straight game. Here is how the local Connecticut rag described her:

Nurse is UConn's best defensive guard. She also averages 12.8 points and leads UConn in three-point percentage (42.2 percent) and free-throw percentage (85.7 percent).

So she is missed at both ends of the court.

"When the season started, we had a kid who started on the Olympic team for Canada and she started for us for two years and nobody thought we were the best team in the country," Auriemma said. "Now, you take her out of the lineup and you look at our backcourt and you go, 'hmm.'

"Nobody had to tell us how important Kia is to what we do offensively and defensively. The sense of maturity that she brings for the most part and the experience that she brings and it's not like we're taking her out of the lineup and we're replacing her with another senior who's been around the program for four years. We're replacing her with a freshman."

What has happened since she has been out?

She started the South Carolina game two games ago but left in the first half. The 16.5 pt favorite Huskies did not cover and won by 11.

Vs. Tulane last game, a team Uconn is LIGHT YEARS ahead of, they won after Tulane missed a 3 at the buzzer 63-60. Uconn was a whopping 27.5 favorite like this game.

How remarkable are those wins when it comes to the spread?

The past two games make up TWO of the 4 CLOSEST WINS IN 101 STRAIGHT VICTORIES.

So what do the books do? They dole out another 27.5 to the Owls like its business as usual. So much room for error here backing the Owls who will look, like Tulane and South Carolina did, to exploit Nurse's absence.

No whammies. No whammies. STOP! Michael Larsen lives!!!

That you may not. And that understandable.

But there is an added layer here as well:

    101 wins.

What more needs to be accomplished with regard to this streak? They beat UCLA men's 88 game win streak; they won the title every year during the streak obviously; they crossed the 100 win barrier...

It would actually be a good thing to go into this tournament WITHOUT the streak, an unprecedented one in the history of basketball, hanging on your shoulders (much like how the undefeated men's teams do not win during March Madness. Gonzaga Wichita State.)

And what is the impetus, especially being down one of your core players to drill another team (which is ranked by the way, FWIW) by 30+ when that team has a singular goal in mind...be the ONE team to break the greatest winning streak in the history of basketball!?

Tulane perfectly exemplified how a team, far inferior, can hang around and steal one and make history...all while getting a qaurter's worth of points from the books.

    Thanks to the above.

That you may not. And that understandable.

But there is an added layer here as well:

    101 wins.

Wow. And I thought I waited long enough getting in at 1pm same day of pick. If I only waited an hour.

This is the typical public pounding of a (historic which is doubly signifciant) team that has paid off bettors in wheelbarrows, just like Gonzaga has and now the books are setting the lines to the moon (under these circumstances without Kia, it is to the moon), to make sure they collect. See Gonzaga's 30.5 pt spread vs Pacific last game in a non-cover.

Scal -  Good to see a post from you.  Like both picks.

Any take on UNCG @ Mercer?  It seems like 2 teams going in opposite directions.  Really liking the Spartans over the Bears.

I was expecting more than 2 plays when I read it was a "cornucopia of plays".

You should give a rat's as*.

If Uconn loses a single game and you are on the ML you are going to make shi*load of money.

What's interesting is that 5Dimes isn't releasing a ML on these big Uconn lines.

That SCREAMS a loss of some kind is forthcoming or at a minimum, 5 dimes is wary of such a thing.

Still The field is +400 to win the championship. Uconn is -600. AWFUL value taking that chalk. They can lose with the 101 win anvil on their backs.

    Coitus juice

Bk - 2 plays in one thread is a TON for my standards.

I'm actually more comfortable betting the women's game. Temple men's team has been pretty screwy lately. The only thing I like is they're at home and hopefully pissed off a little bit.

At least the Temple women just got into the rankings this week; maybe they'll be out to prove their new ranking. UConn can still blow them out by less than 30 and be happy with their win. I could care less, so long as Temple stays within 31.

GL and Thanks for the call Scal.

No real interest in that game.

I have been scouting Monmouth and Iona for their big showdown on 2/26 though. I have it circled. Hoping for a Monmouth loss going into that game. Those two teams hate each other with a passions. Always a good game to jump on because they want to blow each other out. Good for any spread if you have the right side.

Michael Larsen's spins of terror!   I would have never known about that had you not posted it Scal, and I'm so happy you did.  You also somehow tied it into a write up and release of a play... absolutely amazing!  Good luck tonight, I just snagged +31.5

Does Bookmaker not offer the women's lines? Or am I just missing it somewhere?

Guy was a genius was he not Lakers? Pulled the whole thing off with 6 VCR's! And by the time he was hitting the buzzer, they couldn't legally stop him from taking everything! Glad you checked out the documentary.

Bruins- if your site does not offer women's lines it is crap.

not sure it will happen. Monmouth has been tearing it up ATS lately.
