Another BIG game in the CFL! Well aren't they all. Damn straight.

Interesting note: MTL @ WPG begin the season, game #1 and then do not play again until week 21.
It's the last week of the regular season, 2nd last game, 4 pm start. HAM @ CGY play week 1 and then do not meet again until week 20. I find that strange. They play in week 1 and do not meet again until the end of the regular season, some 20 & 21 weeks later! I mean what's the point. In a nine team league. How is that even possible?

Well I will let the rocket scientists figure all that out. This is the CFL after all. Anything is possible. You watch, these 4 teams will determine the play off picture some 9 months from now.

Believe it or not, these 2 teams only met 1 time all of last years 2023 season. It was week 17, CGY 15 @ HAM 22. HAM covered -1.5 pts. Again, how is that even possible! Ahh, the CFL, she is full of twists and turns. Mathew Shiltz, back up QB for CGY was traded from HAM to CGY this off season. It's time to put a little pressure on current CGY QB Jake Maier. Shit or get off the pot Maier!

All said and done... It's week 1, game number 2 and I have to imagine CGY @ home will be laying pts for this game. I figure 6 at the most. These 2 teams are starting off equal. HAM has a +3.6 OFF advantage and CGY has a +3.6 advantage on defence. Good game to bet on the 2nd half.

CGY is 1-4 ATS their last 5 home openers, always laying points.

HAM is 1-4 ATS first game on the road. 2 very similar teams these last couple of years.

Still lot's of time to handicap these first 4 games of the regular season.

Up next we have SSK @ EDM

Oh BABY. Bethel-Thompson VS Tre-Ford. I am expecting good things from SSK this season!!

HAM excluding the 2020 season would be...

1-4 SU & ATS first road game of the season the last 5 seasons.

4 of those games were their actual first game to start on the road each of the last 5 seasons.

Only 1 time 2019 did they open the season @ home and they won & covered vs SSK.

CGY excluding the 2020 season would be...

2-3 SU and they were 1-5 ATS for their home openers to start the last 5 seasons.

These home openers were their first game of each season.  No start the season on the road then come home to play their home opener.

My initial thought on the spread CGY -6 might be a little to high for this game.

How about home field -3 is probably more like it.

I am hearing HAM new HC is actually designing Tight End packages for the team this year.

BLM is out of his walking boot and is expected to start this road game vs CGY.

It seems even the CFL has to try and keep up with the NFL.

Look what they did to start week 1 of the regular season.

They immediately pair last years Grey Cup combatants to start the 2023 season.

Great move.  How hard was that.  Thur night game.

Then Fri night they pair Bow Levi-Mitchell returning back to CGY, the team he will retire with and go into the Hall of Fame.

2 excellent games to start the season and it is about time.

I somehow feel the CFL is trying to step into the 21st century.

Is BLM ready to go this season..Hmm, time will tell and time is running out.

Sorry, start the 2024 season.

Is Bow-Levi Mitchel ready to play this season?  First game of the season!  In Calgary.

Hmm.

The man was in a walking boot 2 weeks ago.  He looked good at HAM's 2nd preseason game.  

Is he really healed?  I bet Shiltz is giving CGY all he knows about HAM & BLM.  Small advantage to CGY.

Folks are betting on CGY right now & I agree with that.

CGY gets the win @ home vs HAM, then HAM gets the win week 2 for their home opener vs SSK.  If HAM wins their home opener they play @ SSK week 3 and SSK will get revenge against HAM and they will win their home opener.  Make sense.  If SSK beats HAM for their home opener, I will back HAM to beat SSK for their home opener.  Make sense, lol.  Oh baby.

If CGY wins their home opener vs HAM, HAM goes home to play their home opener vs SSK.

CGY gets to stay out West and travel to BC to attend the 50 Cents concert & then get a BYE week 3.

Not a bad way to start the 2024 reg season.

Up next they are @ home vs WPG but that is a story for another time.

I heard on a podcast today, HAM their last 50 season openers, home or away...

They are 14-36 SU.

That's not bad luck... That's a habit!!

I also heard HAM is flying to CGY, tonight, on a commercial flight.  Tonight is Wed June 5, No Charter.  They fly out tonight.

Along with all the filthy & unwashed.  The woman with 3 chickens in a cage, a goat in the isle!  The smell of wet hay or straw

I am happy with my CGY +1 play so far.
