Louisiana-Monroe 43, Western Kentucky 42 (OT): Kolton Browning scored on a 3-yard run and then tossed a two-point conversion pass to Rashon Ceasar in overtime as the Warhawks took over sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference by stunning the host Hilltoppers.
Browning passed for 308 yards and accounted for six touchdowns – four passing, two rushing – and Louisiana-Monroe (5-2, 3-0 Sun Belt) rallied from a 21-point second-quarter deficit to win its fourth straight game and snap Western Kentucky’s four-game winning streak.
The Hilltoppers (5-2, 2-1) went ahead on their first possession of overtime when Kawaun Jakes scored on a 9-yard bootleg. Jakes also passed for 308 yards and four touchdowns.
Antonio Andrews rushed for 104 yards and scored on a 2-yard run with 2:29 remaining in regulation to give Western Kentucky a 35-28 lead. But Browning drove the Warhawks 90 yards on seven plays, connecting with Ceasar on a 12-yard tying touchdown pass with 31 seconds left to force overtime.
Jack Doyle caught scoring passes of 12 and 19 yards, the latter one giving the Hilltoppers a 28-7 lead with 5:44 left in the second quarter. But Browning scored on a 20-yard run, and threw touchdown passes of 30 yards to Cortney Davis and 16 yards to Colby Harper to tie the contest at 28 with 11:23 left in regulation.
