With their bats clicking and their bullpen back to full strength, the Toronto Blue Jays are looking more like an AL East contender — and they’ll go for the series sweep against the San Diego Padres today at Petco Park.

The Blue Jays have won five of their last six games and they rode another terrific outing from Jose Berrios and a three-run dinger from Daulton Varsho for a 5-2 win last night.

This has been a tricky series for the Padres, who’ve managed just three runs so far, but they’re favorites in the latest MLB odds. Check out my free Blue Jays vs. Padres predictions and MLB picks below.

Blue Jays vs Padres prediction

My best bet
Over 7.5 (-125 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
The first two games of this series have hit the Under, but there were some positive signs from the San Diego Padres bats in yesterday’s loss. The Padres outhit the visitors 9-8 but didn’t make the most of those opportunities.

I’m picking the hosts to make amends today and cash in the Over on a 7.5-run total that feels a little light.

That starts with the Padres getting after Toronto Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt, who’s struggled in his two road starts this year with an ERA of 7.71 after tough outings against the Rays and Astros.

The Over looks even more appealing when you factor in the Blue Jays’ uptick at the plate. The visitors have scored five runs in five of their past seven contests and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has seven hits in his last four games.

Then there’s the Joe Musgrove question mark. The San Diego starter is carrying a 6.29 ERA and has allowed 3+ runs in four of his five starts this year. I see all of that adding up to offensive fireworks and I’m jumping on the Over.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Bo Bichette Over 0.5 RBI (+175 at PROLINE+)

Bichette had his four-game hit streak snapped last night, but he’s warming up after a cold start to the year — and hitting behind George Springer and Guerrero Jr. gives him a great platform for driving in runs.

Plus, he’s had success against Musgrove in limited at-bats, with two hits from three plate appearances.

I see his .227 batting average climbing in a hurry and I’m picking the Toronto shortstop to add to his tally of seven RBI here with these appealing plus-money odds.

Blue Jays vs Padres spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Padres get the favorites tag this afternoon despite dropping to 11-12 overall with three losses in a row.

  • The recent formbook points to the Blue Jays, who’ve climbed to 12-9 and have won Bassitt’s last two starts.

  • Though these teams have served up a pair of Unders so far in this series, they combined for 17 hits yesterday and I’m trusting the star hitters in both lineups to show up today.

  • The Padres had hit the Over in five out of six games before cashing in the Under in three straight contests this week.
