Okay, so LeGarrette Blount is the last guy in the world who should be throwing haymakers on the football field, but don’t kill him for his latest right hook.
If you haven’t seen what happened at the end of the Titans practice last night, check out this video courtesy of Music City Miracles.
Tennessean.com blogger Jim Wyatt reported on his Twitter account that Dave Stewart, the offensive lineman who Blount clocked, needed seven stitches above his left eye.
Blount is a rookie running back with the Tennessee Titans but he’s famously known for his sucker punch KO of Bryon “Big Mouth” Hout at the end of last year’s Boise State-Oregon game.
I gotta side with Wyatt, Jeff Fisher and the good folks over at Music City Miracles. This isn’t a big deal and the only reason it’s a story is because of Blount’s history.
“I am not disappointed whatsoever,’’ Fisher said of Blount. “His past is his past. Is that the first punch you’ve seen at camp this year? No. OK. I am not disappointed whatsoever. I have great confidence in the young man that he has learned from his mistake and is very competitive.”
Blount was a two-star high school recruit who worked his tail off in junior college to make it to a big-time program like Oregon. When Ducks coach Chip Kelly told Blount that he was suspending him for rest of the season, Blount didn’t mope. He apologized to Hout and Boise State coach Chris Peterson, and then he went to Ducks practice to work with the scout team.
So, yeah, I’m rooting for Blount and I’m not going to bury the guy because he threw a punch at a football practice. It’s the preseason and guys are fighting for roster spots. It’s tense and things often boil over between players.

Totally agree. I think Fisher is an underrated coach. I know that's hard to say about a guy the media loves and is the longest-serving coach with one franchise right now, but still. Guy puts out fires all the time and his teams are always competitive.

These happen all the time in training camp, not a big deal at all, but if Blount was white and hit two black players you want to bet Jackson and Sharpton would have something to say?

That’s just my take. What do you guys think?
Was I watching the correct video? All it showed was Blount punch shoving a dude with a helmet on. No way could that have caused 7 stitches....

I've expressed my opinion in a separate post, "another punch". The problem I see is repeated behavior, a pattern beginning to develop. Read my post and you'll see what I think it's going to take to keep this from possibly happening again and forcing him to think before acting.

Football is a vicious sport at times and scuffles like this happen all the time during training camp. Yes, Blount has a tough history regarding these incidents, but he is exactly like any other young player trying to earn his spot on the roster. Tempers will run high and it is just how it always will be.

Completely agree with your assessment. Good call Russo.
Guy is a head case regardless of how competitive he may be. Someday, he's going to run into someone that'll clean his clock, like that former Longhorn LB that got knocked out by little Roger Huerta. And this would be fortunate for him, nevermind someone with nothing to lose.

Are you kidding me??? Why is ok to repeat poor behavior??? Blount lost his senior yr because he couldn't walk away and "really be a man"...apparently his senior yr didn't mean anything because he didn't learn anything from his past. For some reason, I don't see Blount doing anything with his life outside of football. That being said, he just put his job and life on the line because he couldn't walk away. He needs to grow up and realize if he doesn't wake up and become a man, he will more than likely end up in serious trouble outside of football. Oddly enough, in the real world, you can't go around punching people and use an excuse such "it's preseason, I'm fighting for a job, it's hectic out here"......I don't think anyone in a 9 to 5 job would get away with punching someone because he lost out on a promotion. Sorry Ashton, but this article is silly and I couldn't dissagree more with you. Blount WILL be released and I hope he can turn his temper around and hopefully become a productive part of society, because I don't see him lasting in the NFL

IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO KNOW WHAT PROVOKED BLOUNT ON THIS OCCASION. IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT HE HAS VERY LITTLE CONTROL---MAYBE NONE---OVER HIS EMOTIONS. IT IS A 2ND INCIDENT---BUT PRETTY MINOR, AND COACH REACTED LIKE THE PRO HE IS. WOULD HOPE THAT MR. BLOUNT HAS THE INTELLECT TO REALIZE HE NEEDS TO THINK BEFORE BELTING THE NEXT DUDE.

i 100% agree. this kid has shown he is not only a liability at the college level, where they gave him a second chance, but also at the professional level. A level in which you handle your business in a professional manner ON AND OFF the field. Hes proven that it wasnt an isolated incident and for anyone to think that THIS AGAIN was an isolated incident is just being naive. just because the guy struggled to get where he is doesnt excuse his behavior. once a piece a shit always a piece of shit IMO.

Told you he would get cut Ashton.......before you write such a ridiculous article, and I'm a journalism major, that's why I have the credibiltity to call it ridiculous, think before you hit the send button. Always ask yourself the question before showing the world what you may think is the right side......"would YOU ASHTON, hire LaGarrette Blount and pay him YOUR hard earned money?????
Hands down the worst article I've ever read on covers.....and whoever allowed it be go on the web, or said it was worthy....you both need a suspension. People like me have earned degrees and still read filth like this.....ANSWER this question before BANNING me or whatever....WOULD YOU PAY HIM????? He gets nothing from no one now and never deserved to make it this far. But more than likely, some dumb ass team will put him on a practice squad tiil he erupts again....and I will let you know when that happens...cause this was hands down a worthless article. YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS

Wow. I haven't checked out this thread in a little while. Things certainly have heated up since.
@doliver517: Buddy, you got to chill out. This is a blog and forum post. Not an article. There was nothing factually incorrect (that I'm aware of) in the post. It's only my opinion you don't agree with. My thought was that the only reason this was news is because of who threw the punch.
I think your argument about hiring the guy is completely effed up. Football is a violent sport and tempers flare up. It's not the same type of work environment as everyday Joes like you and me experience.
Would you hire Randy Moss? How about Lawrence Taylor? No? What about Ray Lewis?
