What made this particular loss most painful is that I attended the game at Petco Park and when I needed only one more strike to complete this award-winning pursuit of sports betting bliss I knew, I just knew that the normally unhittable Heath Bell would shit himself and shit all over my bet and see to it that I could not adjust my bankroll appropriately and get my "full time sports betting plane off the runway". I silently begged and pleaded with the typically reliable Heath Bell to pull through this one. I offered charityt to the tune of $100,000.00 audibly and by the time he delivered the pitch that sealed my parlay's fate and contact was made, I left Petco Park a lonely and dejected man. The second the Rockies held the lead, I left the stadium. The writing was on the wall. Games are 9 +innings but this one was over, I just knew it. I had no need to watch the Padres fumble their way through the bottom of the 9th pretending to care that they wanted to win and preserve my ridiculous payout. Didn't they know what was at stake for me? Obviously not; The game's result had already been decided. I walked the full 5.5 miles home and now I'm here and the only resolution I hold is the optimism for tomorrow's card and the opportunity for another juicy slate of winners.
And you were there???
(stunned silence)
(more stunned silence)
And you're going to get right back on your horse today? This is all too much for me to digest first thing in the morning.
Oh, the humanity. You were there. You were right there. In more ways than one.

Right back to the drawing board today. Any thoughts on the Reds at +185? Cueto's numbers much better on the road and Wells' numbers aren't as good at home...I feel there is some value here.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, while the Padres were in the midst of failing to secure a critical insurance run, they showed Heath Bell in the bullpen. He wasn't throwing, though. He was just peering in to the action on the field, and I thought to myself, that given the fact that five of his bullpen guys (not a starter plus some bullpen guys, but just bullpen guys) had combined to blank the hottest team in the National League, that probably made him want this save more than any other save he's had all season. I thought he's probably putting it all on his shoulders that he must nail down this game for his guys. I started to worry that he might want it too much.
Upon entering the game, he immediately began overthrowing to the leadoff hitter, Todd Helton, and when he snapped his glove in disgust upon catching Nick Hundley's return throw following ball four to Helton, I was like "Oh man, please settle down, fool!" Following the dangerous flyout into the right field corner by Tulowitzki and the weak ground ball single by Hawpe, he looked totally flustered facing Giambi, who appears back to being a dangerous guy to face in pressure situations. The 3-pitch strikeout of Matt Murton, in hindsight, only served to ratchet the pain of this shocking defeat all the way up to 11 as Yorvit Torrealba stepped into the box with two outs.

My clumsy Buffalo squad twice fumbled the ball away deep in their own territory. They deserved to lose. I accept my defeat.
With all the Dogs that are already barking today in the MLB, I think it's time get back to cashing in on the books disregard of baseball both today and tomorrow....If I were a lines maker I know I would be spending all my time on the NFL and NCAAF (to a lesser extent)....Just look at this baseball forum, you can see it has dropped off like a brick with pigskin going on.
Line makers over looking the MLB = Time to make some serious coin on their relative laziness.
I'm currently looking at the Mets, Nats, and Royals right now. In addition to those dogs, I think the Angels as a small fav could be worth a shot as the sox are 1-5 (since the all star break) after losing game 1 of a road series

Here's what the Cards have done at home after losing the 1st game of a series:
4/6 PIT L 4-6 => 4/7 PIT W 9-3 (-163) 5/4 PHI L 1-6 => 5/5 PHI L 7-10 (-140) 5/16 MIL L 0-1 => 5/17 MIL L 2-8 (+100) 6/1 CIN L 3-5 => 6/2 CIN W 5-2 (-120) 6/5 COL L 4-11 => 6/6 COL L 1-10 (-133) 6/26 MIN L 1-3 => 6/27 MIN W 5-3 (+109) 6/29 SF L 0-10 => 6/30 SF L 3-6 (-191)
So as you can see they haven't really faced this situation in a LONG LONG time but I think that actually plays into their favor as they will be pissed they lost last night. Also if you focus those losses to just the close game losses by 2 runs or less the cards are a solid 3-1............Just some food for thought

Not sure it appears clearly but the above was a parlay. This hilights the perils of sports handicapping.
This story is a movie script worthy.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120735/
The music and Eddie's blank expression right after he sees Hatchet Harry's cards in that crooked game... Priceless.
My sympathies. I've had the best week of my 'gambling career' just two weeks after a losing streak that made me consider looking for a 9-5 job. No shit. When the last game of a similar parlay is on the line, and you end up on the other side of a miracle 9th inning win you will know it has nothing to do with luck. It's hard work paying dividends.

And it's appreciated Now if Cards happen to lose can't believe they'll get swept sunday
You should stop thinking like that b/c that's a sure fire way to make your bankroll .
5/18 MIL L 4-8 (after losing 0-1 and 2-8 in games 1 and 2) 6/7 COL L 2-7 (after losing 4-11 and 1-10 in games 1 and 2. They also followed up this game 3 loss with a loss in game 4 of the series lossing 2-5) 7/1 SF W 2-1 (after losing games 0-10 and 3-6 in games 1 and 2)
So that makes 1-2 for the year and if you include that game 4 in the COL series 1-3......To add insult to injury they were favorites in all 3 of those games.
