He is truly versatile, which gives him a real chance in NY
"Others need to fly late....he don't"
I will say this. I gave him no chance of winning the Belmont before yesterday, but if you watch the walk to the winner's circle in the Preakness, he isn't even breathing hard!
There are horses specifically bred for the 1 1/2 mile and that might beat him, but I don't think it will be because he cant get the distance.

I think Commanding Curve can beat him in the Belmont.
I put him in the class with Big Brown and Smarty Jones, it was pretty obvious he would take the Derby and the Preakness but the Belmont is a different beast.
Wasn't it a sloppy track for Smarty Jones, Big Brown, and Funny Cide? I remember at least 2 of those races being heavy rain.

I think Commanding can win, but if you watch his Derby again, he passed a lot of dead horses after being hung up in 18th place much of the race.

It all comes down to wether Chrome has anything left in the tank to go 1.5 miles after two big performances in a short period of time . Most top horses these days run once a month let alone three times in five weeks . He'll never run this distance again as most horses won't . That is why it's such a tough athletic feat … I'll be rooting for him but will probable not bet on the short price . Its actually a good opportunity to go against the public and find value elsewhere !

I'm very partial to this California Bred horse. He's living the dream that I once had. Bought a Cal bred for $5000 with a partner and trained it at Los Alamitos just like CC. Vegas Princess. She never made it to the first race. Bowed tendon and sent her out to pasture. For Cal Chrome to go this far and stay healthy, is a miracle. I'm riding him to the end of this dream. If he wins, you can sure bet your ponies that a movie script is on it's way. The stars are lined up for him win. I'm praying for California Chrome to win the Triple Crown !

California Chrome might abandon his Triple Crown bid if New York officials do not allow the colt to wear a nasal strip in the Belmont Stakes.
Trainer Art Sherman made no threats about the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner passing on a chance to become horse racing's 12th Triple Crown winner, but he suggested it was a possibility.
"I'd have to leave it up to the owners," he said Sunday. "I know they'll be upset."
Neither the New York State Gaming Commission nor the New York Racing Association stewards has received a request to use nasal strips in the Belmont on June 7.
"If a request to use nasal strips is made, the decision on whether to permit them or not will be fully evaluated and determined by the stewards," Gaming Commission spokesman Lee Park said Sunday.
Among the Gaming Commission's rules governing Belmont Park is one that states: Only equipment specifically approved by the stewards shall be worn or carried by a jockey or a horse in a race.
Two years ago, O'Neill trained I'll Have Another to victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with the colt wearing a nasal strip. New York officials told O'Neill that his horse couldn't wear one in the Belmont.

What do you think NYRA will do? 20,000 race fans Belmont Saturday if Chrome doesn't run or 140,000 crazed fans if he's in the starting gate. If I was a betting man........

The curse of the Belmont Stakes, there is always something holding the TC contender back.

You have to be a great horse to win the first 2 legs. You have to be a phenomenal horse to conquer the beast that is Belmont. So many "specialty" horses lining up to take a shot at you.
Would love to see it, but don't think it's going to happen. CC has had 2 perfect trips. Getting 3 perfect trips in a row is asking a LOT and I wonder how he will handle any adversity AND the distance.

The horses that have won the Triple Crown are truly immortal. If CC wins the Belmont, he can join them, but I would really feel it was because he had weak competition this season. But no asterisks, if he wins it he should be there. But those that have won it were truly great - Whirlaway, Citation, Exterminator, Secretariat, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Sir Barton, etc. It's hard for me to think of CC belonging with these great names, but if he wins it, I won't fight it.

Thanks for correcting me timtam, but you get the idea, wait a minute, wasn't Tim Tam a horse that also won first two legs and lost at Belmont? I see you have been a member her for over 13 years, even longer than me, you post very rarely and you felt compelled to post to correct me? LOL - nice to know someone pays attention.....
