Anyone ever profess to this philosophy? Power of positive thinking type of stuff. Going through a difficult time right now and just wondering if anyone has any stories they can share specific to reading the book and redirecting their thought process.

Much like most philosophies in life, I believe there is some truth and credibility to the secret. I don't subscribe to what they say 100% however.
I do think that thinking positive can be helpful and beneficial in life. However, I don't agree with what they say about attracting every negative thing that happens in your life. Such as people that are hit by cars in the street or, and to a much more severe extent, the holocaust.
I can't imagine that 6 million or so Jewish people had attracted such horrible atrocities(sp?) to themselves all at one time. The Secret does say that you seek EVERYTHING that comes to you, either good or bad. I disagree with that statement.
Not only that, but I can't imagine these people never have bad days. Days where things just don't brake their way.
In my opinion, it's like the people who made The Secret are the rainmakers or to another extent, non-religious televangelist. Here is an example from "The Wire" of what rainmaking is.

Appreciate the feedback guys. Thanks for the well wishes as well. Tend to agree with a lot of your points K but am going to try and refocus. I notice, even with betting, that I can ahave a bad night or two and it does just spiral. My state of mind, while maybe not the catalyst, certainly goes with it.
I have been a very negative person the last few months, holding resentment, anger, hostilitiy, vengeance, etc. Going to try and let it go and think thoughts of what I want. What I am pooking for. Can't hurt, right?
One thing I do believe is that life is cyclical, and it ebbs and flows. Just wonder how much control of all of it we actually have. Guess we will see if this helps.

I am in now way qualified to diagnosis this, but it sounds like you're battling a bit of depression right now. No big deal if you are, I think everyone goes through this once in a while. Take a break from gambling and pursue another hobby you have for a while. Also seek new friends or friends you haven't spent time with in a while.
I once read this quote, and for the life of me I can't remember where I got it from or who said it, but it goes something to the extent of: "One way to beat depression is to volunteer yourself for another person or cause, everyday, for 14 straight days".
If I can find out who said it or where I got it from I will update the thread.

I believe...stay positive and positive things will happen. I've tried experimenting...some worked others are a working progress (like winning the lottery)
I've also tried to wish for money and low and behold....money did come to me. I don't know if it's "the secret" but if you believe, then it is.
in life...it's all mind over matter...if you don't mind, it don't matter.

I believe I can 'somewhat' relate to what you're going through. My best friend passed away when I was 19 years old. I was confused and sad and mad and a whole bunch of other emotions all thrown in together. I saw 'The Secret' a year before his passing but never looked into it. It wasn't until his passing that I actually followed it (along with a strong support of friends and family) and basically lived my life by it.
As mentioned before, I believe everything is cyclical. You have your 'ups and downs' and your good days and bad days. Keep a positive outlook and remain optimistic and you'll get through these tough times.

I may have to try your plan in my quest to find a suitable job.

Look at your accomplishments. Self satisfaction is a wonderful thing. Seek out the feeling of accomplishment. Find projects that you can do in a day or less and do them.
Find some humor in life. You need to laugh. You obviously have an internet connection, go to pandora.com and register and account and listen to some comedy. Laughter is actually very healthy.
Smile. I smile a lot. I have been told by many people they like it when they see me since I am always upbeat. I constantly tell people, "Smile... It makes your friends happy and pisses off those that don't like you." I especially like and it seems most people especially like the part about pissing off those that don't like you." It has became a game to see if I could get people I meet in daily life to smile before I walk away.
Look at those you socialize with most. Are they upbeat and supportive? Do they enjoy life? Or are they dragging you down.
Also, getting drunk does not help... I know those as well as anybody and better than most.
Don't know anything about "The Secret" but I do know that the power of positive thinking if a wonderful thing.
I have found having a positive attitude is something that people like.
I like for people to ask me, "How are you". My pat answer is to loudly reply, "Wonderful!!! I have a warm place to sleep and plenty of food to eat. Life is good." Accompanied with a big smile. And if you stop and think about it. There are millions of people who would be over joyed to have those two things. Warm place to sleep and food to eat.
I wish you all the best and hope you can step back, count your blessings and then charge forward.

forgot to mention...if you constantly have negative thoughts, negative things will happen.
I sort of wished that I had a reason not to go out and celebrate my bday this week and low and behold I twisted my ankle and now I wont be celebrating my bday... aint that some shit

Thanks but not really. The gambling was just an example. Far more imnportant things going on.
Resigned from my job, three kids, mortgage, two car payments, just stressed and scared. Pretty much pushed out of my job by change in incompetent leadership team above me. Went from great situation to horrible in a period of months.
Also, I worked in psych for 10 yrs. While I have been depressed, certainly not clinically. Just very stressed, negative and bitter etc. Appreciate the dialogue. I know I will get through it..just trying to expedite.

I will say I've received some awesome responses from the people I have worked with. People are very emotional about my departure. Going to have some drinks with some of them tonight. Great stuff. Makes you feel good.

I will say that there is some truth to it. But I will say a lot of it is bullshit. I saw the movie and I gotta say It was good but there is so much bullshit in it that it will make you laugh. This guy in the movie said that he would get a parking spot in front of work or wherever he was going. It's been a while since I've seen it but some of it is comical. Hope things get better for you

talk to your doctor about maybe being put on an anti depressant like xanax or clonazapen. Fish oil pills do wonders for your brain as well as exercise and a good diet. Good luck

I watched the movie based on recommendations from a couple of friends.
My god what a waste of time and money. It was completely stupid. "If you want a bicycle, you can have it" then this kids grandpa brings him one.
No explanation on what the kid did or nothing. Shits just not given to u in life, no matter how much you want it.
The simple concept of think positively, and you will get positive things is pretty much common sense. If you're nice to someone, they will be nice to you.
