i think Oklahoma will be pretty strong, because of their defense... but Landry Jones is far from top shelf...

Again on Texas-you can be replete with talent, your DC can be the Second Coming, but losing Colt McCoy has to have an effect.......
Wisky could be a sleeper
Boise State schedule? Well, they open vs. Va Tech at a "neutral" site..........

To Florida St ????
The Noles Gave up 205(5.4 ypc) Rushing Yards Per Game LY ...Teams such as Maryland and NC St ran all over them...
They could meet on the Moon and Oklahoma would most likely run for 300+

1. TCU (Dalton is an average at best QB)
2.) Penn State at 14...LMFAO
3.) Oklahoma winning it all (they will be good, but they won't win it all)
I also agree that Landry Jones is not top shelf. If he was they would have beat Texas. He only had about 100 chances to move the ball and he failed on every opportunity. I don't care how old or how new you are to the offense- look at Texas's QB in NC game- at some point you have to make a play to be considered "top shelf."

I harp on talent all the time because talent is what wins championships. If you look at the last 10 national champions (Alabama, Florida, LSU. Florida (again), Texas, USC, LSU (again), Ohio State, Miami & Oklahoma), what do they all have in common? They are all annual fixtures in the top 10 recruiting class rankings.
The Longhorns' last 5 recruiting classes, for example, ranked 3, 5, 14, 5 & 5 nationally, and that's why they consistently win. You don't see them winning 10 games one season, and 5 the next. No they win 10 games pretty much every year regardless of who they lose to the NFL and graduation. Why? Because they have stud blue-chip recruits waiting their turn to plug the holes.
Garrett Gilbert was a much higher rated QB than Colt McCoy coming out of high school. In fact Gilbert was 5* recruit, and the #1 rated pro-style QB in the nation. By contrast, Colt McCoy was not a highly recruited 3* prospect. Of course recruiting rankings are not 100% reliable, but when you are adding 20 new 4 and 5-star blue-chippers to your roster every year, there is a very, very good chance that most of those guys will be studs at the college level.
The bottom line is that Alabama, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and USC recruit the best talent year in and year out, and that is evident by the results on the field.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and you may even right that Texas is overrated, but in my opinion there will be very little drop off in overall team results even though Colt is gone and Gilbert is in. And the main reason I say that is because football is the ultimate team sport, and Gilbert will be surrounded by blue-chip talent. Even if he makes a few mistakes, which I have no doubt he will, Texas has enough other talent on the roster to overcome those mistakes. Ultimately, I think Gilbert will be a better QB than McCoy.

Freak and thorpe,
I grew up in Red Bluff and watched his Dad and uncle play hs football! Small world!
Freak, all I can go by is what I see. Talent is one thing, applying it is another. I saw Colt go out, Gilbert go in, and Texas lose.......
I wished he would have went to Cal also.
If he breaks all of McCoy's records, or even one of them, I'll be shocked. That is one bet I will not make.
GL to the Texas Longhorns. Hook 'em!
It is so nice having a CFB discussion without "Fuck you, you don't know what you're talking about!"
I mean, isn't what this is all about? Grabbing some local knowledge and making better bets with it?

Nothing like comparing apple and oranges to drive home a point.
Colt dropped down to almost the 4th round in the NFL draft because of his size (or lack thereof) 6'1" - 215, where Gilbert is a much more of a proto-typical 6'4" - 220 with a stronger arm.
No doubt that Colt had a fantastic college career and, in so doing, accumulated very impressive stats. But one does not necessarily have to surpass Colt's stats to be a better QB. If that's the case then Max Hall from BYU is a better QB than CM because he had better stats last season, or Blaine Gabbert because he threw for more yards. That's ridiculous Stats are certainly a good indicator, but they do not tell the whole story. As for Gilbert's lack of stats, even superstars like CM had to start somewhere. So too is it with Gilbert.
But the stats you do use are from one game in which Gilbert came off the bench in an emergency backup roll against the #1 defense in all of college football, and nearly pulled off the unthinkable. And the fumble happen because LT Adam Ultoski failed to block Eryk Anders, which gave Anders a clean shot to Gilbert's blind side. That certainly wasn't Gilbert's fault. Had CM taken that shot he'd probably still be on the turf.
When CM faced good defenses last season he didn't fare much better than Gilbert. He was 21-41 for 127 yards with 1 TD, 1 pick and at least 1 lost fumble against Oklahoma, and was 20-36 for 184 yards with no TDs and 3 picks in the Big 12 title game against Nebraska. That's 5 turnovers to only 1 TD, where Gilbert had a 5 to 2 ratio against a better defense. So based on these stats, what would give anyone reason to believe that CM would have done much better than Gilbert against Bama's defense?
IMO Gilbert will be a better QB than McCoy and, accordingly, will be picked higher than 85th in the NFL draft.
