I think LSU is way undervalued in this game. Wwashington was winless and lifeless last year. They have not recruiting particularly well in the past and there is a large talent gap between these teams.
LSU seemed to figure out their Quarterback situation in the bowl game last year and Jefferson has continued to impress in the Spring and Fall. He is a run/pass threat who should have a huge game against Washington. LSU has high quality Running Backs, including Charles Scott. I expect them to gain at least 200 yards rushing in this game. Also, many of the top Receivers return making this a potentially potent offense. Notably, the Offensive Line did not sustain any major setbacks with 3 returning starters.
LSU is seemingly always solid on Defense. Although they are inexperienced on the D-Line, I expect them to re-load and bank on the experience of the Secondary and Linebacker corp.
Washington returns lots of starters (18) but they were winless last year. They return 10 starters on Defense, but they gave up roughly 39 points per game last year. It doesn't matter how many starters return if they cannot get the job done! QB Jake Locker is excellent but I don't know if enough talent surrounds him to keep this game close. The talent gap is too big, and recent history indicates that LSU will have little difficulty covering in this game, as Wwashington is 7-12 in its last 19 as a Home Dog, including a 1-5 record ATS as a Home Dog last year. Look for a big LSU win here!

Save your money. There are better games out there. Why lay a huge amount of points against a home dog- at night- who returns an outstanding QB and several starters. It might work this time, but this approach needs to be corrected or you are gonna get burned later in the year. Going against live home dogs with a good QB, a good coach, and lots of experience is asking for trouble. LSU will be in for a dog fight the whole game.

How about looking at the conference--LSU comes from a tougher conference and has an outstanding QB and Coach! I think Washington has to prove themselves first before anyone can commit to them at least going .500

Yes, that same UW team with most of the same players who did not have the "heart" to beat their arch rival Washington State last year "at home" who now have their saviour J. Locker who is long on potential and short on wins. That same UW? That same UW with the accomplished HC in Sarkisian? That UW? You may end up right, but at this point your logic is all wrong. Either you are a UW homer or you are one of those California Cannabis smoking dreamers...Have a puff for me...

Well I meant a good coach and a QB that has the potential to be another college vince young--I don't really put that much stock into LSU but they have always been at least in the top five(5)!!!

Nice insight fellas... I will personally be a spectator for this game as I want to see what the new Wash coach is all about. Les Miles will have his boys ready but the home dog may factor in... BOL in whatever direction you go...

I'm not going to try to talk anyone out of playing LSU, but I would like to ask some of you a question or two.
Are you assuming that because UW went 0-12 LY that they have no talent? That the talent gap here is astronomical? What do you really know about the UW players? TW actually did a decent job of recruiting.........he just didn't have a clue what to do with them after they got here.
For all of you that refer to Locker as an injury waiting to happen...........did you even see how he got hurt LY? Do you really think that Sark is going to run the same offensive system as TW & have Locker running the option all day?
Does anyone think that Holt will have a better plan than Donatell's "wait, let them run by you & see if you can catch them" scheme?
If LSU plays well I fully expect they will cover the # here, but I don't foresee the ass-kickin that Oklahoma gave them LY. But who really knows? As of now noone knows what kind of HC Sark will be.

Good shit Mugg been looking for something like this from you for awhile now...
Washington really got hammered with injuries to the offensive line and losing Locker LY just about crushed the morale of that team in my opinion. Not having Locker caused a ripple effect in my opinion that went from the offense not being able to move the ball on the ground to the defense being on the field way to much LY. This team has to be hungry for a win 0-14 last 14. I fully expect Sarkisian to be a decent coach...These boys should be ready to play. I really hope they keep this close in the first half, then I think they can cover and possibly do the unthinkable.

Fact is Locker progressed very little as a passer under the TW regime. I remember Brady Quinn saying that he felt he got very little schooling under TW..............I think I know what he meant. Sark coached up some pretty good qb's in his time at USC & I'm sure he was smiling at the prospect of coaching a kid with an arm & athletic ability like Locker's. I agree with your assessment of the snowball effect that happened LY. Fouch may be a capable backup (maybe even a good starter in the future) but he was green as grass LY. Just a tough year all around with injuries & such. I can hope for miracles but I don't bet on them........

Willingham wasn't a good coach what so ever...he could get the players but coaching them was a different story. I'm excited to watch that game. One of the games I'm looking forward to the most honestly. Miracles happen

I think UW will be much improved this yr and should offer good value in several games this yr. I also think Les Miles is not a very good coach and I am really not a big fan of backing him considering he has had one winnning ATS year at LSU and that was 6-5-1. That being said there is a outrageous talent difference here. Its not that UW has no talent, but LSU is one of 5 most talented teams in country imo and is without a doubt much much deeper than UW. Locker and UW may come out pumped up and play tough, but I really think they are just physically outmatched here and wont be able to hang in for 4 qrts.

When I first saw this line, I thought I'd get on UW. But then some sharps around here started touting LSU so I backed off. I won't make UW a play...I suspect they will get an emotional bounce with the new coach. I have a feeling that Sarkisian knows what he's doing.

Washington is only two years removed from a 3-point loss to USC (though I'll admit, the game wasn't as close as the final score would lead one to believe), leading Ohio State at HT before losing, defeating a 10-win Boise State team, leading an ultimate Sugar Bowl team in Hawai'i 21-0 before shitting the bed, and defeating the one-time #2-ranked Cal Bears, and since the team was decimated by injuries and quit on Ty in 2008, I'm thinking the 2007 team is a better reflection of what we'll see in 2009.
And let's not already anoint Jordan Jefferson as the second-coming of Vince Young based on the Chick-fil-a Bowl. I give the LSU D and an important, game-changing GT TO on special teams, along with Michael Johnson taking the game off (he would've been a First Rounder if he didn't take so many plays off) more credit than Jefferson's performance for the LSU rout.
I know I'm in the vast minority, but I'm going with UW +16.5 as I think the game will be alot closer and in addition, I like the chances of UW getting a backdoor cover if they happen to be down by 21 in the 4th Q. It's my belief, as hare-brained as it may be, that Sark, as a new coach still feeling his way around things, will want to have his first unit take as many snaps as possible with real-game action in prep that unit for the rest of the season.

there is a talent gap here, even though W has tons of returning players, how many are star caliber? ....LSU will Roll....
The Husky running game struggled last year. Not
only did the backs themselves struggle...... but the offensive line had
difficulty creating holes for them...Improved this year, I'll bet LSU wont think so.
The Sarkisian offense is run oriented.........He needs to put this into place. Otherwise, the "Sarkisian" era could
begin in disaster......

Lots of points to take into consideration on this thread.
I have to say that CW did a lot more with TW players when he got to ND than TW did while he was there. So I dont think UW is completely without talent. I still think they are going to end up in the bottom 3rd of the Pac 10. Which depending on how you feel about the Pac 10 isnt saying that much.
I am curious to see how much improvement LSU shows on defense. From a talent standpoint I think they can be better than last year based on some maturity of some stud players like Peterson, Jones, and etc. I also think the offense will be better if they get better play from the QB position. I really like this OL, adn the depth at RB is outstanding.
A big factor for me in taking LSU is that under Les Miles LSU was 11-2 ATS against non-conference opps in the first 3 years. 6 of those games featured 30 + spread. Miles doesnt call of the dogs. With a lead you can expect to see the back up QB either throwing quick 6 balls or INT's.

Having seen every LSU game Miles has coached and most of his OSU games, I have to tell you that I have still not made up my mind. I've seen his teams win soley on talent, and seen them play far below expectation. I wouldnt call his teams well coached so far. Extremely talented, but not well coached in most contests.
In a pinch Miles gets aggressive where at LSU Saban was conservative. Miles has won some games that I am not sure Saban would have based on the score and situation late in the game. Very different coaches but very similiar results at LSU IMO.

U may be right as I really believe UW will make a good bit of improvement this yr. But imo, what they did in 07 has very little to do with the fact that they are so outmatched physically that they will have to play lights out and catch LSU sleeping to not get punished. I know LSU D was rather dissapointing last yr, but giving all that talent to John Chavis to play with should give Locker nightmares.

Lemon, this is a very good reference point...last night I was walking through UW.2009 and comparing to UW.2007....my personal belief is that this year's edition will be better than the 2007 team that scared a number of very good teams (I was at both the OSU and USC games and, dammit, a couple of breaks and both could have gone our way....the Ohio State game was MUCH closer than the final score, and yes, the USC game was probably not as close as teh final 3 point margain...but the UW had their chances)....
Anyway....Locker will be vastly improved in Sark's system...I like Polk/Fogerson/Shaw/Bronson over Rankin and Co. from 2007.....I thin the OL is as good as 2007 (I think arguments can be made that they are better or worse).....this year's receivers corps are still young, but more talented than the Reece/Russo/Ellis group in 2007, especially with the emergence of TFr James Johnson....
There appears to be a drop off from the 2007 DL though....but I will give this group a chance....that said, both the LB and Secondary groups are better this year than 2007, so maybe it is safe to say that the defense will be no worse....
Coaching? Well...lets just say I am on the "not a fan of TyWil" bandwagon...but who isn't? Sark and Holt are improvements....
Like the UW's chances to keep this close.....but, of course, I can also envision a scenario where they get drilled....GL to those who play it.

LSU is going to be a better team than they were last year....obviously. They have figured out the QB situation and have an outstanding running game and returning recievers that have alot of talent. Weather or not the QB can perform being surrounded by so much talent is somthing we will have to wait and see but well know very soon (by the end of the first quarter of this game). Their defence is most definatly above par with returning most of their secondary, special teams will be a HUGE factor in this game and LSU has the edge on that one with Holiday returning kicks and typical SEC speed, and we all know speed kills! Look at the Georgia Tech game. This is a late game on the west coast which obvoiously will play another factor.

TigerFan, I am curious as to your thoughts on the LSU gameplan here....my belief is that Miles plays this one very, very conservatively, thinking that a couple of early mistakes could get the crowd and momentum going against his team...and that would place his young QB in a tough spot on the road, OOC....
Do you expect LSU to run the ball 40+ times and make this a very physical line of scrimmage game? LSU has plnety of talent to throw to, but not sure if they need to do it.....if Miles is conservative and wants to minimize mistakes, this may really shorten the game and make those 17 points very important....

A dog fight ???? Is you stupid ??
LSU is one of the premier college football programs in the nation, and they are itching to show the nation or people like you that this team has not fallen off the map. I bet if Florida was laying -17 you would be on it like rice on gravy... But you dont have the brain to think that LSU is as talented as Florida. Just two years ago Florida lost 4 games in a season and came back and beat the brakes off Hawaii. Thats because even though Florida had that bad year they had the talent to say lets prove ourselves that we have not fell off the map of top BCS schools. Look for LSU to do the same this year, LSU HAS A DAMN GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM!!
