Well one conference has to have the best defenses...many of you act like its the weak offenses in the SEC that make the Ds look so good.
Rank the conferences for me in order of the best defenses...then we can attack your claim at the best conference.
Also the comparison of the bowl games is a bit skewed. One reason I hate when people compare conference bowl records is because usually a lower ranked SEC team (within the conference) plays a higher seed team from another conference, for example:
Miss St (#9 SEC) vs Northwestern (#5) LSU (#5) vs Clemson (#2) UF (#4) vs Louisville (#1) S Carolina (#6) vs Michigan (#3)
UF and UGA were hoping for spots in the national championship game, they weren't motivated to play Louisville or Neb. Louisville and Neb, on the other hand were pumped to be in those games. Neb was trying to redeem itself for the awful showing vs Wisconsin and Lousiville was trying to prove it could hang with the SEC. It does matter that they were playing in bowl games because it affects young players motivation. We all bet and everyone factors that into their bets, or you should...
I dont think the SEC D's dominate other conferences from top to bottom, but the conference has the best defenses...hands down.

Grid- i think you're overvaluing the talent around Thomas. He may have his best statistical season of his career. But im doubting that average offense will be running on all cylinders in week 1. And even if they are, i don't see them having much fluidity on offense. That all aside tho. The thing i really think you're over estimating is tech's defense. You're talking about a squad that was average in the acc. And im sure we can agree that bama's offense will be one of the best, if not the best they face all year. Even if tech gets 17, which they won't, i don't see them covering 24. I guess we will see come the beginning of the season. I just think ppl are unaware of how good bama actually is this year

Wheaty - Bud Foster coached defenses do not have TWO bad years in a row.
the Va Tech D will be significantly improved in 2013. just watch.
The D will be good, but the offense is going to be mediocre at best. Thus, the defense will be put in a lot of bad spots....making them vulnerable in the 3rd/4th quarters......

2010 at Florida, a guy named TEBOW was gone and the offense was in complete rebuilding mode.
2011, Loeffler ran Temple's offense and they averaged over 30 pts per game, which is their highest avg per game total in decades
2012 Auburn was a mess, every coach on the team starting with Chizik was a mess. They caught lightning with Cam Newton that bcs title yr, but aside from that the entire situation was cancerous.
2013 barring injury, i believe Logan Thomas will have his best statistical year as the starting QB at VATECH
The offense at UF was is complete dissaray in 2009 and no one noticed because they had an NFL team, the play calling was simply laughable. The next year it was so bad Urban had to leave.. Ask the Temple fans what they think about that offense now, UF fans tried to warn them and they thought it would be fine.. after a year they were begging to give addazis offense back… then he took the cancer to Auburn and gave them the worst offense in their history.
Dude this guy is going to make you want to kill him by the 2nd quarter. No way im taking a team with that bum running the offense and certainly no way I will ever put money on a team when I KNOW they have absolutely NO chance to win the game.

Well he should. This is his 3rd year as the starting QB. If he doesn't surpass the pedestrian numbers he put up his first two seasons, there are people who should be losing their jobs . . . again. It would certainly be illogical to believe otherwise.

I see 45-17 or 52-24 score. VA Tech can score 14 garbage time points, I don't think Bama's second team defense will be that sharp.
It is highly unlikely that Virginia Tech will score 2 touchdowns in this game. They certainly aren't scoring 3.
I think the final score will be very similar to the Michigan and Notre Dame games, except I think Virginia Tech will score fewer points. I'll call it 42-10.

Do people here really think there is value in this game?
Not being smart, just a serious question?
I'm sure Bama will not want to show everything with their trip to College Station not far in the future.
I will answer your question this way. If I were setting the line on this game, I would make it 24. Even at that number I think Alabama covers. So if the line stays below 21, than there is a ton a value on Alabama.
The TAMU game two weeks later will have zero effect on the VT game.

I don't have a take on this game yet, but it will take a very weak line for Me to ever back logan Thomas with my money again. He has regressed as his career has gone on. No reason to think that will change this year.

talking 2 months before the season, without a game being played its all retard talk , as usual
vetting matchups in advance is what good cappers do. I suspect you wait until the week of and try to decipher the garbage posts of all the desperate degenerates touting and rationalizing their picks. good cappers do their homework in advance. maybe you are the retard...

He will only get worse with the Loeffler cancer around..

I give Beamer credit for sticking around as long as he has and developing one of the top programs. But Alabama, LSU are just too much. I mean look at all the 5 star recruits they get. If VT could have recruited some solid offensive linemen, had a Kevin Jones type RB and not had Exum tear his ACL, then this might be a damn good ball game. But I just don't see it being that close. Maybe that is why they made it a 5:30 game instead of primetime.
Even if it is a blowout will be interesting to see some of the new players on the field.
