Pittsburgh Pirates still top of the money standings

The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to exert their dominance in our money rankings. The Bucs currently sit atop the league up +25.12 units so far in 2013.

The Pirates have not finished on the plus side of the money standings since the 2003 season when they finished a  pedestrian +0.85 units. They flirted with finishing on the plus side of things the past couple of seasons but have been cellar dwellers most seasons in between.

The Washington Nationals defeated the Pirates by a score of 9-7 Thursday. Pittsburgh currently sports a 60-40 record following the loss and are 2.5 games behind the N.L. Central leading St. Louis Cardinals.

The Miami Marlins host the Pirates for a three-game weekend series which opens Friday. Jeff Locke (9-2, 2.11 ERA) is slated to take the mound for the Pirates against Miami's Henderson Alvarez (0-1, 3.28).
