Lakers' futures odds on the move after acquiring Howard
The Orlando Magic finally pulled the trigger on the Dwight Howard trade, sending their all-star center to the Los Angeles Lakers in the four-team deal including the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets.
That massive move shook the NBA futures odds in Las Vegas and offshore. The MGM Mirage, which had taken a lot of futures bets on L.A. before the trade, trimmed the Lakers' NBA title odds from 9-2 to 2-1 when news hit Thursday and then moved to Los Angeles +160, making it a co-favorite to win the championship along with the Miami Heat.
Online market, Sportsbook.com, moved Los Angeles from 10-1 to 6-1 when the Howard deal went public. Basketball bettors wagered more than $9,000 on L.A. overnight, forcing them to bump the Lakers to 4-1 Friday morning.
William Hill in Las Vegas has released a series of props following the trade, setting the Lakers' season-win total at 57.5. They also released a prop on the NBA title, "Will the Heat, Lakers or Thunder win the NBA title", setting "Yes" at -360. "No" is set at +280.
The LVH currently has the Lakers priced at +450 to win the title and +150 to win the Western Conference crown, ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles made waves earlier in the offseason by adding veteran point guard and two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.
The Philadelphia 76ers sent forward Andre Iguodala to the Nuggets but added Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson. The Sixers are sitting at 30-1 to win the title and 12-1 to win the Eastern Conference. Denver is also 30-1 to win the championship and sits at 15-1 to win the West.
