Ice picks: Saturday's best NHL bets

San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues (108, 5.5) odds provided by logans

St. Louis been decimated by injuries. Key defensemen Erik Johnson (sprained right knee) and Alex Pietrangelo (upper body) have been out and appear doubtful for Saturday's home game against St. Louis.

Still, the Blues have been fighting through it and they did it again in a 6-4 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday.

"It's starting to feel like one of those things where it's almost normal," head coach Davis Payne of dealing with absences. "The guys have to pick it up."

That's exactly what happened on Thursday, as nine different players contributed points.

"I think it shows a lot of the character that we have in the room," noted forward Alex Steen, who scored the game-winner. "I think you look around the room and there's not one player who didn't play a good game tonight."

Pick: Blues

New Jersey Devils at Atlanta Thrashers (-142, 5.5) odds provided by logans

Ilya Kovachulk returns to Atlanta to face his former team on Saturday. To say the Devils don't have much momentum going into it, however, would be an understatement.

They ended a five-game losing streak with a win over Phoenix on Wednesday, but New Jersey went right back into its funk with a 3-1 home loss to Nashville on Friday.

Part of the reason for the team's woes is a propensity for starting off slow. The Devils fell behind 2-0 in each of their two previous home games before the win over Phoenix and they trailed 2-0 after two periods against the Predators (it was extended to 3-0 in the third).

"We didn’t draw it up to start that way," assured head coach John MacLean. "From the get-go we have to have our minds clear and prepared to play. Things happen quickly in this game. Whether it’s the first minute of the game or the 15th minute of the game, you have to be ready to go at all times."

The Thrashers, on the other hand, are playing stellar hockey. They have earned at least one point in 12 of their last 14 games. However, it was one and only one in each of their last two outings, both shootout losses (on Wednesday at Tampa Bay and on Thursday vs. Carolina).

Pick: Thrashers

Quite the game in COLLY last night. I have to say I really did not expect them to pull it out, especially with the poor play in their own end but that ot winner by Douche-ane was deadly. Had COL lost I would have been down -3.65 units on that game alone but the win netted me +2.5 and then the T-Blazers won to make it a +5.45 unit night overall. Now I just need to finish the weekend without any major letdowns to keep the week streak going..................................................................................... I really like the Trashers at home to beat up on the Lucifers in the return of Kovie & Hedberg. I also love VAN at home to the LAFFS but why the hell is it a 7 pm ESTime start in VAN ??? I can't remember the last time that happened. I thought about the YOTES but -150 is a bit much with Brutus Labarbera Beefcake in net, although he is going against Lawson (who ??) for the IS-LESS,think I'll leave that one alone.......................................................... Other than that not to much jumping out at me although with Lehtonen and Garon going I could see the U 5.5 in CLB. I had also thought about TB but with Smith in net I would not bet them with LeeK3's account.

LOCKED AND LOADED....................Can't stay around to do much analysis, but here are some things I do like today....................COYOTES @ ISLANDERS - LaBarbera (2-3-0-1, 3.02 GAA) versus Nathan Lawson (3.78 GAA and .890 save percentage in 9 AHL games this season). PICK >>>>> OVER 5.5 (EVEN)..........KINGS @ PREDATORS - Bernier (2-5-0-0, 3.30 GAA) versus Lindback (9-1-2-0, 2.08 GAA). Predators are on a tear and at an amazing price, while playing at home. PICK >>>>> PREDATORS (-110)..........DEVILS @ THRASHERS - Johan Hedberg (4-6-0-1 2.94 GAA) versus Ondrej Pavelec (10-6-0-3, 1.80 GAA). Devils are playing on a B2B and I feel like this is the game where the Trashers end their two game skid. PICK >>>>> THRASHERS (160)

Ive noticed that alot of the times these 1pm hockey games usually go under the total. Maybe the players are not ready to play this early or their hungover, tired, not use to playing this early. Makes for a tighter game. NYR/PHI UNDER 5.5. 3-2 game. Maybe even shootout.

hey whats happenin, gross week thus far so lookin for a bit of redemption. so going with ** ANA as my POD. Hurricane's are on their best winning streak of the season, but coming off a 5 game roadie and returning home to host a good Ducks team that will no doubt be ready to play after dropping their last game to the ISles! Had won 3 consecutive before that though This game could easily take longer than 60 minutes to decide, but in the end Anaheim prevail! Also, the **OVER 5.5 in Van tonight is a lock. If the Flames can score 5 against the Leafs.. well lets just say that no matter what the Leafs have worked on in practice the last cpl days, I still like the Nucks to score at least 6 themselves. Always a fun, rowdy game when the buds visit, there will be goals.. **DAL to win in columbus, **ATL (2 straight SO losses, will right the ship against the Devys for sure), **UNDER 5.0 min/cgy (ok UNDER is 8-1-3 last L11 when total is 5 goals. UNDER!!!) Good luck ppl, pce and luv

RANGERS @ FLYERS - Sorry, won't be much analysis on this game tonight, but I'm going to lock in the Flyers because I'm not sure if I'll be up in time for the drop of the puck. Haha! I like the Flyers in this game because they're home and the home team in this series has won the last five games. PICK >>>>> FLYERS (-145)

The lines came out at my book tonight (not the same as Pinnacle, but I don't live in Canada, so can't use Pinnacle) and I have 3 plays that I like for Saturday so I made them tonight.................The first is to keep FADING THE CAPITALS and take Boston. They are on a 7 game losing streak and just not scoring AT ALL. The only negative thing is that the Bruins have lost 3 in a row themselves, but at least they are home to a raucous crowd on a Saturday night and at least they are scoring some goals....The Caps have 3 goals total in their last 4 games and only 9 goals scored over the 7 game losing streak. And for those of us who saw the 1st episode of 24/7, we can clearly see that the entire Capitals team is dejected and in a funk. Sure it won't last the entire season, but I will be riding the streak and not fighting it..................The 2nd play is the NY Rangers as underdogs against the Flyers without Pronger. I know he is only 1 player but the Rangers are the best road team in the league at 12-5 and have 3 wins in a row (over the Caps, Pens and Coyotes). The Flyers are the best team in the league (based on Points) and a respectable 11-7 at home and yes, they have won 4 wins in a row, so sure they may pull out a win. But hey, the Rangers are the 4th best team in the league with 41 points and at a nice underdog price. And again, since the Flyers just lost their best defensemen with a broken foot for a month or more, I like the Rangers here..................The 3rd play is the Atlanta Thrashers on a LeeSystem play over the hapless New Jersey Devils. The Devils are 4-12 on the road and the 2nd worst team in the league. They lost to the Preds tonight on home ice and Marty Brodeur is now 5-13-1 this season. The Thrashers stumbled recently losing 2 in a row but both were by 1 goal and BOTH in a Shootout (a 2-1 loss at Tampa and a 3-2 loss to Carolina). Atlanta has won 6 of their last 8 on home ice and in their last 7 games, they are averaging 2.86 goals per game. On the other side are the Devils who are averaging 1.86 goals per game in their last 7. I'm on Atlanta...........so my 3 plays are....... ATLANTA -150 vs New Jersey, to win 1 unit.............. Rangers +125 vs PHILLY, 1 unit................ BOSTON -140 vs Washington, to win 1 unit.........The lines may change, but that is what I have since I wanted to get them in tonight since I'm traveling tomorrow. Good Luck to everyone!

Nice Leekles I thought you were gonzo for the weekend so (for entertainment purposes only) I was thinking of dropping a few Leeky plays (non-system) on your behalf and ATL & BOS were on the card for sure....shocker. The third play was VAN ML to ?? on a vig buster but I guess all thats moot now. Have a blast at the JAX/COLTS game on Sunday brother and shoot me an email with the details when you get a sec. Travel safe buddy and have some fun. By the way if you are still looking for my last minute x-mas gift for me go blonde,5'7" & 110lbs with 450cc upgrades. Oh and make sure you wrap up your "gift" if you hand it out to elv-ettes HI-OH(handshakes).
