Patrick Mahomes II passed for four touchdowns and a career-high 483 yards and ran for two more scores while playing just 2 1/2 quarters as Texas Tech manhandled Stephen F. Austin 69-17 Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.

Mahomes, coming off a season in which he led the Big 12 Conference in five categories, including passing touchdowns (35) and total yards (5,109), had three short touchdown passes in the first two quarters and added another in the third before heading to the sideline.

He hit Cameron Batson on a 13-yard TD strike on the Red Raiders' first possession, Jonathan Giles from 22 yards out early in the second quarter and Dylan Cantrell on an 8-yard touchdown hookup with 4:33 remaining until intermission. His third-quarter TD pass was for 14 yards to Devin Lauderdale.

The quarterback added touchdown runs of 3 and 7 yards, and Keke Coutee contributed a 6-yard TD rush for Texas Tech in the first half.

Stephen F. Austin, a Football Championship Subdivision program that plays in the Southland Conference, is now 0-10 all-time against Big 12 opponents. The Lumberjacks scored touchdowns in the third quarter on a 9-yard pass from Zach Conque to Justice Liggins and in the fourth quarter on a 38-yard connection from Hunter Taylor to Tamrick Pace.

Texas Tech racked up 758 total yards, 493 in the first half alone. The Red Raiders scored touchdowns on five of their first six possessions in assuming a 35-0 lead and scored on six of their eight drives in the first half.

It was the 14th consecutive season-opening victory for the Red Raiders, the fifth-longest run in the country and the longest active streak in the Big 12. Texas Tech has won each of its last 16 home season openers and has scored at least 40 points in each of its past six season openers. Saturday's output established a school record for the most points in a season-opening home game.

The Red Raiders are 20-1 all-time against FCS opponents with wins each of the past 16 meetings dating back to the 1988 season. This is the third straight year in which Texas Tech opened its season against a FCS opponent.
