Junior guard Myles Powell scored 31 points -- including a Big East tournament-record 29 in the first half -- to lift Seton Hall to a 73-57 victory against Georgetown on Thursday night in a quarterfinal game at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The third-seeded Pirates (19-12) advanced to face second-seeded Marquette in a semifinal on Friday night. Georgetown (19-13) whittled a 28-point deficit to 18 in the second half but ultimately was unable to recover from Seton Hall's early shooting tear.

Powell's torrid first half set the tone for the Pirates. His 10-for-14 shooting effort included 4-for-7 accuracy from long range and a 5-for-7 showing from the free-throw line. He also doled out three assists. Powell exited the game with an apparent foot injury with 3:31 to play but was walking under his own power.

Georgetown trailed 53-28 at intermission, giving Powell the distinction of outscoring his opponent over the first 20 minutes of play. The Hoyas shot 9-for-25 (36 percent) in the first half compared to 18-for-31 (58.1 percent) for the Pirates.

Sandro Mamukelashvili had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for Seton Hall. Myles Cale scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half -- including a trio of 3-pointers -- while helping Seton Hall force Georgetown into 10 first-half turnovers that results in 20 points for the Pirates.

James Akinjo led the Hoyas with 15 points on the night. Matthew McClung scored nine points, while Jessie Govan had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The teams were meeting for the third time since Feb. 13. Seton Hall earned a 15-point victory on its home floor, but Georgetown evened the regular-season series by defeating the visiting Pirates 77-71 in double overtime on March 2.

The Pirates split their regular-season meetings with Marquette, losing by four on the road on Jan. 12 before stunning the Golden Eagles with a 73-64 home victory on March 6. Seton Hall closed the latter game with an 18-0 run.
